If you want booze value downtownish, Buy Rite has the best prices I've ever seen for alcohol.

I just moved up to 07304 In May from downtown and was surprised to find grocery store and booze is way more expensive here than downtown. I really didn't expect that.

I work at JSQ. So, when I work at home at Exchange Place, I am shocked at the lunch prices.
Check out the lunch buffet at the Culinary Conference Center on Tuesdays. It's $12. https://www.facebook.com/culinaryconferencecenter

Interesting thread, when I lived in 07302 things were not as high as they are now.. towards the end of my stay there (2010)
I was getting use to, but tired of the price gauging, then I moved to 07305 and was shocked when I bought my first bottle of Poland Spring water for 50 cents. The same water in 07302 will cost me a $1.50 down there. As for as pizza you can still get two slices and a pop for $5.00 here... and You can still get a hero sandwich here for $3.00. LOL!

+1 for Food King. There's no reason Thai food needs to be twice the price and half the portions of chinese, it's the same ingredients, just different spices. My "cheap eats" used to have a $6 threshold, now it seems I have had to move it to $8, though $6 is still possible. I don't know where in Manhattan you're eating Annod, I needed lunch around 8th and 54th recently and was shocked at the prices even for za.

I guess that is subjective. Whatever your feelings say.
I would say that chicken and broccoli at Food King is worth it. But not at Grand Sichuan, More Express, Shanghai Best, or Taste of North China. El Sazon De Las Americas would be worth it.

What price range qualifies for "cheap eats?"

I always felt that food in 07302 is expensive. It seems easier to find cheap eats in Manhattan than in 07302. I can take the PATH train to Manhattan and back, buy a banh mi and Vietnamese ice coffee, and still have change left compared to 07302. You may save on housing but you spend more on food.
I found a review in Yelp where the owner shares my sentiment. See owners comment Rant: That truck that sells chicken and rice at Columbus and Marin is not cheap. He just gives you less. I get more chicken and rice for same price at JSQ, and they use the same container. Where do you guys go for cheap eats in 07302 that is worth it?
