It depends on what you do in the free time. If all you do in your free time is to post on this board....
Quote: Just curious - does anyone use a rough rule of thumb to determine if driving for groceries is more cost effective than walking to neighborhood shops? Personally, I consider my free time worth 1.5 times the equivalent of my roughly calculated hourly wage.

I bought corn at 10 ears for $1.99 at Corrado's yesterday, and they were quite good. USA blueberries, a pint for $.99. Good peaches $.79/lb. And for Jessica, the Corrado's in North Arlington is quite small compared to the original in Clifton, but their produce section is quite large. Prices are the same at all Corrado's locations but the selection is, of course, somewhat limited outside the flagship.

Moving here again after being away for 6 years has thrown me a little. All the places I used to go in Manhattan and BRooklyn are not convenient any more, and to be honest, I can't remember most of where I used to go here in JC. I would like to avoid schleps to Western Beef and Fairway if I can help it.
Are there places people feel have good, inexpensive produce? Brooklyn has a number of 24/7/52 fruit and vegetable warehouses open to the public that I am missing already. What about tahini? I use a lot of it, and I can't be spending $9 a jar. Thanks.

THis is great news. I have great admiration for the original Corrado's in Clifton but trying to shop there is virtually impossible. Hopefully the North Arlington one is less crowded. I want it to be successful, but the Clifton location is a victim of its own success.

Spanish Grocer is on corner of Bay and Grove, not First. I'm pretty sure I've seen poblano peppers in their producer section.

I ended up getting them at Carmen's, on Chesnut Street in Union. I highly recommend them.

Tender Shoot on Newark Ave usually has them but as with some of their produce, you have to make sure it isn't rotting already.
Maybe also try the grocer on Grove and First (I think it's First St, across from the soul food restaurant).

Anybody know of a market in JC (farmers markets in the parks perhaps? going to look there next chance I have to make it) or hob/bay/UC/Not too far, that sells Poblano Peppers?
Not the dried 'ancho' versions, they are all over, but I'm looking for fresh poblanos for a recipe/experiment. Thanx!

A Corrado's market has opened nearby in North Arlington, just steps above RT7-they have rhubarb this week (and cardoons, which you hardly ever see anywhere).

One of the produce vendors (closer to Grove) at the Grove PATH Farmer's Market had bunches of fresh rhubarb on Monday, the entire stalk, leaves and all - BUT you can't eat the leaves.

Hi. Anyone know a butcher where I can get USDA organic chicken in bulk? BJs sells "natural" chicken in bulk, but I am looking for organic.

I think Cho O Pain has Brioche buns (if I'm thinking of the thing as what you're looking for).

Does anyone know where I can get prickly pears in JC? I had seen them in Shoprite before but they don't have them now.
Thanks!

You should have no prob getting paneer from the Indian markets near JSQ....but if in a pinch....farmers cheese is very similar in taste and texture to paneer.
