I am not exactly sure what you mean by a $1000 beginner's fee. The one time initiation fee is $99, which any full service gym would charge (probably more) and the monthly fee is $69. NYSC charges much more than that, and most of them aren't all that nice.

Brick Haus will be offering free parking across the street and they did say it will be a secured lot (not sure how).

Also, I don't remember seeing a pool in the plans. They will have a full list of classes such as yoga, kickboxing, etc...

Anyone knows about ANY gym opening in Hamilton Park area ?
I work and drive in Joysey

If not..., well, I have used Synergy since I moved out of Hoboken (I dropped NYSC there the moment they dropped the parking coverage, as for NYSC Exchange Place, for parking/time forget it) but Synergy is pretty limited in terms of free weight/benchs/space. So is the boxing gym on Division the best compromise for both cardio and free weights as well as space and price ($50-70) ? Hoboken was a ripp off considering the crowdness and time sharing of equipment with post-frat golden boys.

I've never found the NYSC crowded, though that's probably because I go midmorning as opposed to the lunch rush. And now they're finally starting weekend classes for those of us who live in the neighborhood...

That's a great idea, actually. Is it too late to make a grownup jungle gym part of the new Hamilton Park? Venice Beach, eat your heart out! Thongs and body oil optional.

JCbiscuit, i always run outdoors--i hate running indoors on a treadmill. i'd work out outside too if you could find me a outdoor gym somewhere in the vicinity. maybe do some squats on the jungle gym.

Me and my wife just joined the Brick Haus the other day. They are expecting it to open within 6-8 weeks and they gave us a virtual tour. All brand new equipment, nothing refurbished...all cardio machines have LCD TV's...they will also have a sauna and juice bar. Plus, the place is pretty huge. Synergy and Gold Coast are going to need some major updating to keep up. $69 per month is not bad for a high end gym with new equipment...I am sure Club H will be much more expensive.

Here's a two-birds-with-one stone idea:

How about all you gym rats get out and run in the sunshine, on the streets? You'll get fit, we'll have a foot patrol, and you'll save some serious cash...provided it doesn't then get lifted from you at gunpoint.

Come, join us outside! The fresh(ish) air will do you good.

I think synergy will probably have some promotions next month after brick haus opens to keep people from fleeing en mass. Anyone know if the new gyms will "buy out" old memberships-- essentially giving you credit towards a membership at their gym if you sign a long term contract but still have a few months left on your old membership?

I agree, the more gyms the better. I go to NYSC now and the one by Exchange Place gets really crowded. This will help alleviate that hopefully. One thing that Brick Haus doesn't look like it will have is windows. I am a big proponent of well lit gyms (preferably natural light). Club H will have some nice windows.

the more gyms the better, imo. i'd rather have a variety of different places to choose from than have nothing to choose from.

$1000 a year is absurd for a "presale"

Yes Club H Fitness is coming across from the PATH station.
it's supposed to have a pool i believe.
pre-sales start in September with I think opening beginning of 2008.

that seems like a lot of gyms in that small area, right?

where exactly is this brick haus gym going to be located? i'm looking for a gym to join and i checked out that place on division near newark a few weeks ago and though it's not that impressive it's really close to my place and the price isn't bad.

Don't mean to stray from the Bick Haus thread, but keep your eyes open on the new development on Columbus between Marin and Warren. Then entire first level will be the latest Club H.

They have drawings up a the Hoboken location and say that it should be open late Fall'07 (meaning Spring '08). The plans look very similar to the one that opened earlier this year in Hell's Kitchen.

They're actually still working on interior renovations. Igo by there every day, so I'll stop by today and let you know how it looks :)

I'm really curious too as I'm looking for a space for teaching.

I know there was a thread on here a few months ago, but I couldn't find it...anyway, the sign went up today on the side of the old furniture outlet that read "Brick Haus Fitness Center - Opening Summer 2007" (or something like that).

Has anyone heard anything about the equipment/amenities/services and pricing? My membership at my current gym is up in a few weeks and I was wondering if I should just renew for a month and then switch over to this new gym.
