You have senior housing on the left, and as mention St. John's Church as your neighbor. There is also a charter school near the church. Across St. Pauls Avenue is a senior building is a gas station and convenience store. Across Kennedy Blvd is P.S #31 and a doctor's office and a commercial area. The only danger you have is the traffic on Kenney Blvd and St. Pauls Avenue.

Hi,

I lived in St Johns Condos for 7 years as a single woman in her early thirties. I felt totally safe there. Late at night I would take a taxi home but walked all the other times. The 3 buildings are gated with a doorman at each building and security guards. JFK is all lit up for the entire walk home.

I think you will be fine. Plus you are renting so if you do not like it move on. Newark Ave. is across the outdoor corridor and St. John's church is across the street. It is a busy area from there all the way to the JSQ PATH station/bus terminal. There is a large Indian community west of Kennedy Blvd. and they are always roaming around town and being passive type people you do not hear stories of them being bothered. One plus you have Monteleone's Italian bakery is at your finger tips.

I am considering renting an apartment here. However, I am concerned about the safety of the neighbourhood. I am a single woman in my 20s. If you are living in one of these three buildings or somewhere nearby, I'd love to hear your opinion on whether you think it's safe to walk around here. I am not planning to be wandering around at midnight, just doing the commute to/from the PATH at reasonable hours.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thought this thread was relevant. I have a question about the dry cleaning service I see here in the building in the lobby. What are the details on how it works, who they use, how it compares to going around the block etc.?

if i were you,i would definetly at least check out an apt. at St. Johns apt. just so you can get an idea of the amount of space you get here verses some of the new buildings which tend to be very tight spaces.some apt. even canco the rooms are practically on top of each other with no hallways seperating different rooms.

all 3 buildings are great. i live in 10 huron which just got 3 brand new elevators.it`s also a little more lively then the other 2.all 3 have great views if you live on a high floor.
we checked out brunswick also which wasn`t bad but we got a big 2 bed 2 bath 1250` sq ft. for mid 300`s and we put in about 20,000 for renovations and we have amazing views.it`s a pretty safe area and close to all transportation.

To follow up.....

201 ST Pauls is definitley the most desirable of the 3 bldgs...brand new lobby, elevators, eashroom...they all share the pool, whcih was recently renovated. All bldgs have doorman and they share a security guard. If you are looking to rent or buy 201 ST Pauls is my suggestion...however it will probably cost you a bit more that the other 2 bldgs, but its worth it.

I live in 201 as well.. It's a great place to live in my opinion. The whole property which includes 201, 225 and 10 Huron are all in a gated complex. There is a pool and a fitness center that cost additional money above your maintenace fee. Pool is apporx. $175 for the summer and the gym costs $75 for the year. The gym is kinda crappy but for $75 what do you expect.

The buildings have a mix of people - young professionals, older couples and singles that have been here for years. Its very safe here. There is 24 hour security and doormen in each of the buildings.

Unfortunately for me the prices have decreased in the last two years. There are studios, one bedrooms and a handful of two bedrooms. From what I know one bedrooms range in size from around 650 sf to 925 sf, two br's are a bit larger - prob 1,000 - 1300 sf and studios are 400 sf or so.

One br prices can range from $250 - $300K or so and monthly maintenance depends on the size of your unit. I have a 925 sf unit and pay $436 a month for maintenance which includes heat, air conditioning, hot water and all the security guards, doormen, grounds etc.

Taxes are about $3 - $4K depending on the size of your unit.

Well thats all I can think of. Let me know if you want more information.

Thanks.
