By the way, I was told that I cannot stack my (working) Bosch dryer on top of any other brand of washer (heck, the appliance company rep even said it couldn't be stacked on top of a newer Bosch washer either, because the company has changed the design).
I was very upset to hear this as that would mean at least another $600+ out the pocket, not to mention throwing away a perfectly working machine. Does anyone know if it's do-able: to stack different brand washer / dryer? I know why the companies do this (what a waste - in return for profit!) Is there a solution that can be "hack / put" together by someone handy to make it work?

Blomberg is a German manufacturer that is not in the Bosch, Miele, Liebherr class price-wise, but I would worry about finding competent repair people. You might actually have to find someone certified by the company in order to keep your warranty valid.
From your other posts it looks like this is not a good appliance time for you. If you are planning to buy your washer and your refrigerator at the same time, you can probably get a good deal or get better quality appliances than if you were to buy them separately.

I've not heard of Blomberg, but another vote for LG - I got a great deal on an LD washer + dryer from Sears about 4 years ago (one of those special online only "put in your cart to see the price!" deals) and I've been really happy with them. Sears came and took my old ones and installed the new ones.

Anyone heard about, or use Blomberg washers / dryers?
I just spoke with with aplicance company and the rep recommended this brand (which I've never heard of), since I told him I want to stay away from Bosch (which broke my heart). TIA.

We have the Whirlpool WFC7500VW. It has been great for the last 14 months but just started to have an issue with the spin cycle. Have a technician coming today to service it.

I would recommend a Speed Queen model, but I don't think they make one small enough for you. The smallest is 27". They are made in the USA and built like tanks. They use knobs instead of digital control panels. To clean clothes you need water, detergent, and an agitator. Anything else is superfluous nonsense.

They can search to see if there are any "dial" models that meet your needs. Don't be put off by the their small selection, they can procure almost any manufacturer.

If you are handy, and a little adventurous, and if you are sure that what is broken is the digital control board, you could try to fix it yourself. I replaced the electronic control board on a Kitchen Aid gas stove, and it was pretty simple. The hard part was unscrewing what seemed like 100 screws and moving the behemoth out of (and, back into) its space. Similarly, I have also fixed some other issues with other household appliances. My experience with household appliance repair people (and, companies) has been very underwhelming, with subpar service, over inflated costs and very poor customer service.
This will sound terrible, but here it goes anyway: remember that most household appliances are made so a very low skilled person can work on them, and (possibly) fix them. As such, you don't need any advanced knowledge, although experience helps tremendously. PS AFAIK, no one fixes a control panel. They get replaced. Also, depending on the brand/company, parts may be covered under warranty, but not the labor associated with installing them. As a point of reference, Kitchen Aid major household appliances are warrantied 10 years (some might be less, and the warranty terms may have changed recently) so grab the serial number from your washer and call the company. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Perhaps my expectations are too high - if I were to buy a new washer today, how long would its life expectancy be?
I had always thought a washer, given its hefty price, would last at least 10 years before a major repair kicks in. My repairman told me that nowadays, the electronic control panels are the first to go (sooner than one think), and are very expensive to repair too. I'm almost afraid to put down another $1000 dollars for something that's only going to last a few years... perhaps I'm too pessimistic???

We just bought an LG wm1355hw at Home Depot in December. They came, took the old one away and installed the new one on a date we picked.

We looked at Miele 7 years ago, but it was too expensive and out of our budget (I think it was $3000 for washer + dryer, before delivery fees from NYC). I've also heard that repairs would be expensive (just like BMWs
BTW, our broken washer is a Bosch Axxis - I was a bit surprised that it broke in 7 years (the repairman estimates $400 for repair). We're not sure if that's worth it, or if we should just get a new one.

Small 24" washer (front loader) - any recommendations?

We are looking to purchase a front loader washer (my beloved old one is not worth fixing, unfortunately). Due to space limitations, we can only fit a 24" washer, and it has to be front load.
Does anyone has a good recommendation for one that could last me many years to come (I hope? Our existing one lasted 7 years - which I initially thought would last longer given it cost $1K+)? Thanks.
