It's all a scam! How about the shady way they have of letting you know you're going to be inspected (taping a xeroxed/hardly legible notice on the door a day before....).

Worse is if it's a rental property you own but live in. The concept seems beyond them. I'm positive they have our real address somewhere, and they certainly have our phone since its on the form they taped to the door, but they'll send certified letters to the rental address and NEVER lift the phone to see why we don't get them.

The inspection happen every 5 years. It takes a LOOOONG time for the state to get the paperwork to the landlord.

The state will send your Landlord a list of the issues they found via certified mail and they will schedule another inspection to ensure everything was fixed.

If you have an issue with your landlord other than the safety violations you may want to contact the City's department of housing as they are more likely to have jurisdiction. The state usually only deals with safety and environmental issues.

We had our apt. that we rent downtown inspected by the state of NJ a couple of months ago. They guy came in and checked the heating and ac, looked at the walls and noted a crack etc, looked at the fire escapes, noted there was not carbon monoxide detector and that the lights in hallway should have been on among other things.

My question is, does anyone know what dept. at the state level would have done this inspection? I forgot to ask the guy so I could follow up.

I want to follow up for certain reasons pertaining to some issues with the building owner.

Thank you in advance.
