From Kabili Tayari's letter:

Is he suggesting that Abbott District kids deserve MORE than what they actually already get in funds, compared to other students in the state?

Who is to blame for the Abbot kids' NOT getting "quality education"? If one is to take a look at the JC public school system, one can surmise that it is the bureaucracy & 'business-as-usual' politics that do it disservice. The bulk of the funds must not go to the kids & the teachers, because the results don't show the millions of dollars of public moneys getting spent on the system.

This guy is a shame.

He probably got mad that Healy didn't give him a car, so he felt he was entitled to a rental. lol

Jersey City Deputy Mayor Kabili Tayari charged with theft

Jersey City Deputy Mayor Kabili Tayari was arrested by Port Authority police yesterday, who pulled him over in a rental car that had been reported stolen, reports said.

Tayari was charged with theft under his given name, Randy Brown, officials said today.

He was arrested in Jersey City and charged with theft by failure to make proper disposition of property received, based on allegations by a car rental business at Newark Liberty International Airport, said Jennifer Frieberg, a spokeswoman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Tayari was arrested at 9:30 a.m., fingerprinted and booked by Port Authority police and later released, said Frieberg, adding that the charges against him are being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office.

The vehicle Tayari was in when he was arrested was returned to the airport rental service, Frieberg said.

The charge apparently stems from his failure to return a rental vehicle, officials said. It's not clear how long he had the car or what the circumstances were but the Essex County Prosecutor's Office is expected to provide additional information on the charges later today.

Tayari, who is in his late 50's, has been a Jersey City employee for the past 12 years and has been president of the Jersey City branch of the NAACP at least as long.

He got his start in city government in the administration of Mayor Bret Schundler and has also served as president of the Board of Education and interim Municipal Court director.

During the administration of Jersey City Mayor Glenn D. Cunningham, he was an assistant business administrator and an adviser to the mayor.

As of October 2007, his city salary was $104,871, officials said.

This guy is a joke. Laying him off will save the taxpayers.

Jersey City NAACP chapter president Kabili Tayari, who released a statement blasting Gov. Chris Christie's appointment of former Jersey City mayor Bret Schundler to be the new state education commissioner, says it was not an attack. Tayari also serves as a deputy mayor for the City of Jersey City.

This is not an attack.

In 1989, Gov. Thomas Kean appointed me to the Jersey City Board of Education, I served until April 1997. During July 1996 until July 1, 2001, I served in the administration of then-Mayor Bret Schundler. Jan. 1, 2000, I began my term as president of the Jersey City NAACP while Bret Schundler was mayor.

Based upon (1) the Feb. 23 letter to the editor from Michael Meyers and (2) the March 2 letter to the editor from former Mayor Gerald McCann, who is a member of the Jersey City Board of Education, there has been a lot of confusion and misunderstanding and misinterpretation about the NAACP's position on the nomination of Schundler for state commissioner of Education.

Before I continue, the New Jersey NAACP embraces Schundler's nomination. The statement released by the Jersey City NAACP branch is not an attack on Bret Schundler or a violation or breach in the NAACP's policy.

First and foremost, the statement released opposing the nomination of Schundler is based upon a lack of education background, little or no education experience, and little or no formal academic training in education. This is the position of the Jersey City NAACP and the New Jersey State Conference of NAACP Branches.

The Jersey City Branch of the NAACP followed the bylaws, constitution and policy of the NAACP and consulted with the president of the New Jersey State Conference of NAACP Branches.

Mr. Michael Meyers reported inaccurately that I and the Jersey City branch had not followed the bylaws, constitution and policy of the NAACP. Third, this was not an attack (partisan, professionally or politically) upon Bret Schundler.
If the press release from the Branch was printed by the press, it would show that the Jersey City NAACP recommended Mr. Schundler for the position of (1) Banking and Insurance Commissioner, (2) Director of the Economic Development Authority and (3) the Commissioner for the Department of Community Affairs.

Furthermore, from New Jersey Department of Education Commissioner Hespe to the nomination of former Mayor Bret Schundler, the NAACP and others have raised the concern that nominees for the commissioner of Education should have a thorough background and expertise in education based on the crucial foundation of the education of all children has upon our city, county, state and nation. Qualifications and experience of any nominee or appointee for the development of the minds of our children is always the principled priority.
New Jersey has a number of failing schools. The issue is not school prayer, vouchers, or charter schools, but policy for the implementation of a thorough and efficient education for all public school students.

March 1, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously released Schundler's nomination as Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Education. But it did so without recommendation, which has no partial effect other than for senators to express less-than-full confidence.

Sen. John Girgenti, the vice chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, stated he is not convinced former Mayor Bret Schundler's "vision will provide the best public education in New Jersey." Let us not forget that at least 1.5 million public school students from Abbott districts comprise at least one-third of the New Jersey public school students and are not receiving a 21st Century quality education and equitable funding.

Therefore it is written, Matthew 25:40 and 45 "Verily I say unto you, in as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
The Abbott children are the least of these!
This is not an attack on Bret Schundler but a polemic on who has the best holistic vision to implement a thorough and efficient education for all the children of New Jersey.
