Here is the link for 2010 for Hudson County. These are the numbers submitted to the state. They are not matching what we are being told. http://php.app.com/njcrime/results2.p ... 5&YEAR=2010&Search=Search

I could be mistaken but I was given to understand that the numbers reflect the number of homicides that took place within Jersey City's boundaries not who was the investigative agency.

If you are comparing like with like, shouldn't you also factor in who investigates the incidents? Aren't homicides investigated by Hudson County, whereas most other crimes are handled by JCPD. Does the kudos for the lower homicide rate belong mostly to Hudson County not JCPD?

Now this part of the article says there were 26 murders in Jersey City in 2010. If you go to the police website & look up the the statistics as allegedly reported to the NJ State Police Uniform Crime Reporting Unit the numbers don't add up. Here are the monthly Homicide numbers by month: Jan 2010 - 2 Feb 2010 - 2 Mar 2010 - 2 Apr 2010 - 2 May 2010 - 2 Jun 2010 - 1 Jul 2010 - 2 Aug 2010 - 2 Sep 2010 - 4 Oct 2010 - 2 Nov 2010 - 0 Dec 2010 - 0 Now I'm not a math genius but even I know the above does not add up to 26. Unless 5 people that were part of some horrific crime died after Dec. 31, 2010, we be missing 5 bodies.

I have been here almost 24 years and I have seen some great changes but I also have seen some bad stuff. The worst was a young guy shot in the head and instantly killed on 8th Street near McWilliams Pl back in the early/mid 90's. In the past few months it seems like the area around Hamilton Park is a little more menacing as transient crimes have increased. Automobile burglary is in vogue again with the advent of GPS units. We all know about the thefts of mail and UPS packages too. Now we have a resurgence of sneaker and jacket envy amongst the misguided youths. Almost all of these things can be blamed on the economy and drug addiction in the case of the GPS thefts. I worry about an increase in violent crime as more and more naive residents move into the area.

With cops taking more guns off the street, Hudson County sees stark drop in murder rate in 2011
Monday, January 02, 2012, 3:00 AM By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal A triple homicide in Harrison in August was among the more shocking murders in Hudson County in 2011. The number of murders in Hudson County and in Jersey City dropped dramatically in 2011. There were 27 murders in Hudson County last year, down from 36 the previous year, and there were 18 murders in Jersey City in 2011, down from 26 in 2010, records show. At one point during last year, Hudson County went more than three months without a murder, said Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio, noting that it was the longest period with no murders during his decade-long tenure as the county's top law enforcement officer. "There was an effort by the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office to concentrate on problem sites and persons of interest," DeFazio said of last year's efforts. "There was a coordinated effort to concentrate resources in an effective manner." Jersey City Police Deputy Chief Peter Nalbach attributed the murder dip to "the work being done by the men and women in the department," adding that police have taken a lot of guns off the city's streets. In 2011, there were triple murders involving family members in Bayonne and Harrison. There were three murders in Union City as well. On Dec. 5, Adepso Collado, 28, of Jersey City, fatally shot himself after killing his estranged wife, Kenia Collado, 26; her friend, Jose Guzman, 31; and Guzman's 18-month-old son, Matthew, in his wife's home at Avenue A and Fourth Street in Bayonne. On Aug. 16, Carlos A. Campos-Trinidad Sr., 56; Ruth L. Pereira, 58; and Gabriella Morales, 3, were stabbed to death in their home on Hamilton Street in Harrison. Carlos Campos Jr., 23, of the same address, has been arrested and charged in the murders of his mother, father and niece. In 2011, the Jersey City Heights community was shocked by the murder of Randy "Amanda" Lehrer, 32, of Lincoln Street, a waitress who worked at Tommy's Restaurant on Central Avenue. Lehrer was last seen leaving her job on Aug. 14. On Sept. 23, her body was found encased in concrete inside a 55-gallon drum in the basement of the residence she shared with her husband and child. The husband, Steven Acuna, 37, has been arrested and charged with her murder. There was also a Christmas Day homicide last year. On Dec. 25, Jeorge Alvendia, 44, of Roosevelt Avenue in Jersey City, was beaten to death with a shovel in his garage after threatening to evict his three brothers-in-law, officials said. The brothers, Elieser Paet, 44; Francis Paet, 37; and Wilfred Paet, 39, have been arrested and charged with the murder. There were 30 murders in Hudson County in 2009 and 28 in Jersey City that year. Newark, a city of comparable population to Jersey City, had 91 murders in 2011, five times the number of murders in Jersey City.

Excellent point. The numbers are manipulated to make people think things are better than they are. Here are some JC stats comparing Jan thru Nov 2010 to 2011. I only go to Nov for each year because Dec stats for 2011 are not yet available. Homicide - 2010 - 21: 2011 - 15 Robbery (Strong Arm - fists, etc) - 2010 - 504: 2011 - 548 Gun - 2010 - 141: 2011 - 153 Knife, etc - 2010 - 160: 2011 - 212 Some crimes are up, some are down. Between Jan & Nov 2010 there were a total of 10141 reported crimes in Jersey City. That number is 9956 in 2011. That is a difference of 185 crimes, not a huge number. Can't wait to see Dec 2011 stats are.

Was manslaughter included in these stat's, especially when a murderer might go for a guilty charge for the lesser crime to keep everyone and costs happy and down !
