Harlem is quite nice now...maybe it was bad 20 years ago when I wish I could have bought something there cuz I could probably retire now or at least have a nice nest egg.

I don't really see any potential for that area of Jersey City anytime soon.

I would not recommend it....It is very shady over there. I lock the door when my husband is in the Home Depot, and I am waiting in the car in the front of Home Depot!

This area is like the Harlem of Downtown J.C. up and coming but still seedy., it is kind of industrial and congested with ugly apartment buildings. And the fumes from the tunnel traffic will choke you eventually. Do you really want to live near the Home Depot, a bar, and also a huge block long liquor store ? It's scary over there but then if it becomes trendy the hey property values will go up huh?
My advice to you is try the east side of the Heights it's more residential, less congested, and easier to navigate.

Homeless shelter and project, not a good area, short walk to Newport and A&P are only positives...another poster gave some good advice...there are some good deals west of Hamilton Park

No, Don't move there. It's not a complete war-zone but there are much more pleasant areas to live in that are affordable especially in these economic times.

Aside from crack-heads, you are in the middle of the in-bound and out-bound Holland tunnel traffic. You can't walk around to a park or whatever. I mean, you can, but you may get killed....by a car.

If money is an issue, walk around my neighborhood. Anywhere between brunswick and Jersey ave, and Newark and 7th. There are plenty of apartments for rent by owner and it's safe, close to Hamilton Park, the Path and bars/restaurants. It's safe, you don't need a car and you may have nicer neighbors.

If you can afford it, you'd probably want to look elsewhere. I know I wouldn't feel safe walking around there after dark.

hi can anyone tell me if the following location is safe to live in: 601 grove street, its by the home depot. I am looking for an apt here, but I was told by someone that this is were "crack heads" live - not too safe. another friend of mine - who lives in the area said the area is fine (then again she has a car and I don't) any thoughts?
