all the police and military garb can be bought legally anywhere - every second tourist coming to NY gets NYPD stuff including those baseball caps and t-shirts.

this guys only offence would be if he had a gun and NOT a licence to carry.
it is a crime to impersonate a police officer.

Did he say he was a cop? I've seen NYPD garb all over the place in Manhattan and NYPD do have official merchandise that they sell to the public!

it said "described the man as suspicious and wearing "a police-type uniform" and a gun holster"

did he actually have a real pistol or revolver on him? these writers on NJ.com are a waste

I don't know him personally but I've seen him many times. He hangs out in Dunkin' Donuts on Union Street & Westside Ave.

The guy who was arrested, I have never seen before. But his car I have seen around town for past year, if not, a couple of years. Reason I know this is because on the trunk he has a transponder which stands out, and it's something you see on the PAPD cars and other police cars. JCPD doesn't have them, maybe the Sheriff does.

Ron Zeitlinger | The Jersey Journal

Jersey City police have detained a man who was seen wearing a law enforcement uniform and carrying a gun inside the Hudson Mall, a witness said.

Resized Image

The man was spotted this morning by an off-duty police officer who described the man as suspicious and wearing "a police-type uniform" and a gun holster, said Joe Shine, a freelance photographer for The Jersey Journal. A badge emblem on the man's shirt said "U.S. Police."
