The 20 year old man shot was the father to a 6 year old boy . . . a tragedy on so many levels. Agreed... Jersey City man shot dead was dad of 6-year-old, had just left restaurant By Michaelangelo Conte | The Jersey Journal Follow on Twitter on August 09, 2014 at 11:51 AM, updated August 09, 2014 at 12:03 PM The Jersey City man shot dead early Friday morning was the father of a 6-year-old and "was very outgoing, family loving and he truly liked to laugh and have fun and smile," family members said last night. Josha Taylor, 20, was with a large group of people on Kennedy Boulevard near Lexington Avenue when he shot, authorities say. Taylor ran to Lexington Avenue and collapsed and died at about 12:30 a.m., authorities say. Family members said last night that he had been at a fried chicken restaurant just before he was shot. Taylor's cousin, Tania Gethers, said Taylor "was very outgoing, family loving and he truly liked to laugh and have fun and smile." Taylor was born in Jersey City and went to School 41 and Lincoln High School. His heartbroken mother, Ladesha Taylor Adderley, said he had a 6-year-old girl. Adderley said she was at work in Secaucus when she got a call from a cousin saying her son had been shot. She called a few people and the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health, but couldn't get any information. She then got a call from a friend of her son saying Taylor was on lying in the street and she rushed then to the location. "He was still there when I got there," said the mother sitting in her living room on Bostwick Avenue last night, where she had been praying moments before. There were about 30 friends and family members at the Bostwick Avenue home and Assemblyman Charles Mainor had joined them. "I have known the mother for many years and I just wanted to pay my respects," said Mainor. "It's just so unfortunate that a shooting has claimed another young life. As elected officials, we are going to put measures in place to equip the police with whatever they need to put this to an end. Link - JJ

Usually these people are at Bergen and Lexington so it looks like they just moved a block away to Kennedy since the criminals avoid it because of the traffic that passes by.

Remember the widely-publicized police crackdown in certain areas several weeks ago? Do you think the criminals simply moved into other places, such as this street?

Man gunned down in Jersey City identified as 20-year-old city man
By Michaelangelo Conte | The Jersey Journal Follow on Twitter on August 08, 2014 at 7:11 PM, updated August 08, 2014 at 7:13 PM Homicide investigators have identified the 20-year-old Jersey City man who was shot dead early this morning near one of the hot spots police say are driving gun violence, officials said. Joshua Taylor, 20, was found bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body on the sidewalk at Lexington Avenue just east of Kennedy Boulevard and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:37 p.m., Hudson County Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino said this evening. Authorities say the gunman or gunmen opened fire on the victim, who was with a large group of people on Kennedy Boulevard. Plainclothes Jersey City police officer working with the Prosecutor?s Office's Municipal Task Force heard multiple shots coming from the area of Kennedy Boulevard between Oxford and Lexington avenues and when they responded to the area they were directed to where Taylor had collapsed, Rubino said. Police say Taylor was part of a large group on Kennedy Boulevard when he was shot and he ran toward Lexington Avenue, where he finally collapsed, Rubino said. ?The Jersey City Police Department and Prosecutor?s Task Force were deployed in this area to address concerns of possible violence,? Jersey City Public Safety Director James Shea said. ?It seems clear that this shooting was not happenstance, but rather targeted specifically toward this individual or individuals.? Neighborhood residents expressed fear and anger in the aftermath of a fatal shooting. One Lexington Avenue resident, who declined to give his name, had just returned home from work and was eating at his kitchen table when he heard "between four and five" gunshots. He said he looked out his window about five minutes later and saw Taylor on the ground, but still moving. "He wasn't dead yet, not when I first saw him," the man said. Another man who lives on Lexington and also declined to give his name but said he?s noticed what seems like an uptick in criminal activity on the street in recent weeks. ?It didn?t used to be like this,? he said. A. Smith, a neighborhood resident who declined to give her first name, said investigating police officers spent more than an hour on Clendenny Avenue, one block away from Lexington, looking through garbage containers and walking the spaces in between houses. ?It was trash night, and they were looking through everyone?s garbage,? said A. Smith, who also noted the increase in violence in the neighborhood. ?Not a week goes by that you don?t hear gunshots,? Smith said. ?I was just saying, last night, that things seemed quiet. And then ? gunshots...This used to be a good place to feel safe, on (Kennedy) Boulevard. Not anymore.? The shooting took place just a block away from the corner of Bergen and Lexington avenues -- one of seven locations where police are beefing up their presence to quell gun violence they say is stemming from drug trafficking and street disputes. Three blocks from the site of this morning's shooting, Jersey City Police Det. Melvin Santiago was ambushed and killed last month at a Walgreens pharmacy on the corner of Communipaw Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard. No arrest has yet been in connection to Taylor?s homicide. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hudson County Prosecutor?s Office Homicide Unit at (201) 915-1345 or by email at hcpotips@hcpo.org. All contacts will be kept confidential. LINK - JJ
