Unless you lived in Sweden or Norway, I highly doubt you were in any system close to the ones liberals are advocating for. Russia was not communism, it was a dictatorship that never got past the second stage of communism's 3-stage plan. It was also a terrible, terrible choice to try communism because of its geography. People thousands of miles away from each other share no common cause with each other. Random Dude in Vladivostok and Party Leader Ivan in Leningrad don't give f*&k one for each other and are will work for their own interests and not a common cause.

Want to see somewhat successful communism or socialism? Look at Israeli Kibbutz's. Look at places like Scandinavia that have some of the best quality of life metrics by nearly any scale (except warm weather, but hey). Small population areas where people give a rat's ass about each other and work together. That's a lot closer to communism than the USSR ever got to. That's also nothing like what MOST liberals are advocating for (including myself). I, personally, want to cherry pick a few things here and there from places like Norway and such that are proven successes.

Again, your label is incorrect and part of the failure in dialogue. We are functioning on different terms.

Out of curiosity, why not just go to Loews/Home Depot/local hardware store and buy a new one? Unless this is something unusual like a full window screen or something, in which case, disregard.

Interesting usage. Obvious privacy concerns, as were mentioned in the article, but a cool little tool nonetheless. It either doesn't say or I missed the cost of this tech, but I wonder if it will be possible to get the funding for it.

Wow, I didn't even know he was still alive, I remember a long while ago, he was ill and thats the last I remember hearing about him. I guess not reading the local papers means you lose touch with the writers, duh. Great guy - as everyone will attest to - shame to hear about his passing. Will there be a public memorial of any kind?

Thanks for completely missing the point and not realizing it is both a health and aesthetic issue. Good job on whatever tunnel vision you possess that allows you to read one line while completely ignoring the next.

On a good business? Are you out of your head? Any place too lazy to even clean the sh!t out of their shrimp is a dumpster fire I wouldn't ever crawl into. Feel free to eat your dirt and decaying bits of plant and animal in your meal, I'll be spending my money and time at places that don't include that crap on my plate. I'll also certainly spend free time bashing a place as crappy as that to anyone who will read.

The black stuff is the contents of the intestine and not the intestine itself... There are several reasons for removing the intestine, the most obvious being the aesthetic appearance... In addition, the shrimp's colon and its contents can impart a disagreeable taste and gritty texture to the meat or dish.

What is that grit? Dirt, mostly. If you've ever had occasion to chew on something with even one grain of sand, you know that the grain feels like a pebble in your mouth. Generally speaking, however, you'll find decayed vegetation and decomposing bits of dead animal.

That's a health reason, all right.

So I ordered from Big Easy seafood up on Communipaw, and to my nauseating surprise, they didn't clean their shrimp from my grilled shrimp sandwich. I'll upload a picture later if anyone wants, but fully half the shrimp still had the feces attached.

Upon calling them, I was told I would have to bring the food in myself as they wouldn't send the driver back out. They also claimed they don't have to clean the shrimp, which is incorrect for shrimp of that size. I'll be filing a complaint over at the Health & Human Services Dept. on Monday, but in the meantime, do yourselves a favor and don't bother eating at this place.

Jersey City inspections at its finest.

Dear friends, We were very close to being ready to open but we were told to add some additional sprinklers. Consequently, our architectural plans and calculations need to be re-drawn and then approved by the city, which takes time. Hope to resolve this setback soon.

I'm referring to the rails west of the fields at Ferris and the field/park near Brunswick/Pavonia. I know for a fact they were still active in the late 90s, as I used to cut across them often on my way home from Dickinson. I saw a freight train just last night over Grand St. heading north - however I couldn't tell you if it turned west up to the Journal Sq. area or continued north past Newark Ave.

You're saying that stretch in between Dickinson and the park is now inactive?

Demographics. The immediate neighborhood surrounding Hudson Mall is the poorest section of Jersey City. Union City/North Bergen isn't exactly the wealthiest place in the world, but it is certainly better off than the Greenville neighborhood.

This was said in the other thread by someone else and it is mind boggling that people are unable to put two and two together. Let me repeat myself from there.

IT IS THE SAME PARKING LOT.

They are moving about 200 feet. It is the exact same f'n parking lot just a block north. It is free. It is the same parking lot. It is the same parking lot. It is the same parking lot.

Changes at Hudson Mall

I'm assuming the webmaster deleted those posts because it kinda hijacked the Barcade thread (rightfully so, sorry about that). But for those that were asking questions, what is happening is as follows:

The four stores in the south wing of the Hudson Mall proper are currently empty. Staples is moving from its current location in an adjacent building into those four locations. The three tenants, Good Fortune, Game Stop and the Dollar store have moved or are moving to other locations in the mall. GF and GS are both near the center of the mall while I am unaware of where the $ store is going to reopen at. The 5th store in that row, the Leather store, might also move, but I don't know if Staples is going to want that extra 2,000 sq. ft. so I don't really have an answer.

Unrelated, the Beauty Supply store in the mall that closed recently is simply just closed. It had nothing to do with the Staples move.

Get the facts. The High Line is 1.45 miles long. The Embankment is .5 miles long. A big difference as far as up-keep and security would be concerned. Also, if you bothered to go to the meetings or look at the renderings you would clearly see they are proposing gradual walk ways to address wheelchairs so no need for elevators.

That still requires security, maintenance and etc. etc. etc. Less is not the same as none. That still costs money. Money that would be much better spent in other ways. Even a street level park would require much less outlay and less upkeep. I can't state it enough: the entire idea is crap and even worse in these poor economic times.

Not to be too disrespectful, Bright, but that seems like a bit of a load of bull. That would require not only building the Embankment park, but rebuilding the bridges so it connects to back to the rails. Also, those rails are private property of Conrail last I looked, and are active shipping lines. Since when are people permitted to hike on them?

Wait, people are bitching about TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND BUCKS? To actually try and figure out ways to improve a neighborhood?

Today the US shot 119 Tomahawk missiles into Libya. At a cost of $575,000 Per missile the total cost is $68,425,000.

Lets get a liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittle perspective here folks.

I'm all for more parks, but can we stop the insanity of the Embankment people? The High Line has elevators to bring up the disabled and has multiple workers with walkee-talkees patrolling it constantly. If it wasn't patrolled and cleaned, it would become a seedy no-man's-land in days.

To turn the Embankment into that kind of park, we'd need bridges to join all the sections, multiple elevators, security guards, lamps, fencing, and landscaping. No one's going to spend that much money for a park that doesn't even go through a high-traffic part of town. Pick your battles, people. There are plenty of other places to beautify downtown.

I can not applaud statements like this enough.
