When this issue first came up, I had a long exchange with the Mayor after I criticized him in the Jersey Journal. He felt that it was unfair to force him to go through 1600 entries and try to classify which were of a personal nature and which were city business. (I'm not sure he even understood that much of what he redacted might have been legitimately shielded by "executive privilege" which protects from disclosure certain communications related to the executive function.) What I tried to impress upon him was that a meeting with a vendor of copy machines would NOT be shielded from disclosure -- as opposed to someone giving him advice on a political or policy issue. I encouraged him to get out front of this issue and create a new standard of transparency. Obviously, he chose not to take my advice.

It's very comforting to all knowing Steve's political advisors are posting on the formidable JC List.

So where is the best blew cheese burger downtown ?

Fulop puts Norcross on blast over AC

POLITICO:  By Matt Friedman 1:50 p.m. | May. 3, 2016

With acrimony growing over Atlantic City’s financial situation and a state takeover plan, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop on Tuesday aimed a scathing statement not only at Gov. Chris Christie, with whom he’s been fighting, but at George Norcross, the most powerful unelected Democrat in the state.

“I know people will say that what I am about to express will hurt me in a potential gubernatorial race — I don’t care,” said Fulop, a likely Democratic candidate for governor in 2017. “Also, I know that people will say that Christie and Norcross will use, as they have done in the past, government entities and law enforcement in Trenton to intimidate me — however, the truth is the truth.”

Lot's of Drama it seems : "I don?t have much else to say about the Mayor Fulop's release," he added. "My father always told me never to interrupt someone making a fool out of themselves ? but it is important to note that the Mayor did not always have a negative impression of me. He has repeatedly sought my advice and support, including just a few months ago when he traveled 2 hours to my office in South Jersey and begged for my support for Governor. I respectfully declined, but perhaps that rejection is behind today?s unhinged statement.? Fulop did not deny meeting with Norcross, but said he did not seek his support "I've met with him plenty of times but not about what he says,? Fulop said on Twitter. "He has actually come [to Jersey City and been in my conference room].

I'm piecing this together still but basically i got a letter from JCMUA saying that a leak had been detected and that the condo building i live in (2 family) would need to replace its connection to the main. I was having work done on my apartment at the time and told my contractor. In the following day or two, an outside contractor (either for the water company or PSEG, i'm unclear) had the street dug up, partly because there was a small sinkhole uncovered on the other side of the street from my house. My contractor worked quickly to get his plumber over and replaced the old lead pipe with copper, billing me around $3k all in, including grounding clamps inside the house.

I thought I was done. In retrospect i should not have taken the word of the outside contractor or my contractor and should have followed up with JCMUA itself. But i never got any quote, invoice or bill apart from the original letter and no one contacted me until the line item showed up on my water bill. In my mind at least, the contractor was digging up the street to find a leak in their system and I managed to get my pipe installed while that was happening. I don't think i should be billed for excavation when they were digging up a large part of the street.

I'm trying to find out from my plumber what the best course of action is and then will call JCMUA.

for others who have had to replace their water pipe to the main, are you willing to share how much it cost in total, including excavation and plumbing work?

talk about ruining a nice saturday...

Bit more here:

Only Suez or formally United Cocksuckers Water can tap the main water pipe under the street.

It's actually pretty cool how they tap the pipe while under high water pressure and create or replace the new lead.

Your plumber or contractor will work off that feed and someone gonna pay for that other crew to show up.

Maybe someone who has actual experience can post a youtube how to video ?

thanxxx

Curious, any idea if it would be about the same for a sewer connection rebuild? I've been kicking that can down the road for nearly 2 decades.

More $ as much bigger pipe

and how far in the feed is into the building.

not a quick fix either.

It's a 2br.
Obv you can make sure it gets priced in but I don't want a condo I can't sell.

@ Around 150k to 165k

within 5 years after JSQ has fully blown out

you'll do well

It's called insurance fraud, years ago they'd burn the cars in Newark or Kearny.

This was more like a set up to have the car ripped off and it's probably already chopped into pieces ready to export out in a container to Columbia or somewhere these older Beemer parts will have some value.

No amount of inspection is going to make the system profitable?we?re talking about public transportation after all?so its losses already have to be weighed against the benefit the system brings to the region. Would tougher enforcement and harsher penalties result in a genuine benefit, or would it make the system less accessible and less beneficial to communities that are otherwise poorly served by public transportation? Maybe NJT isn?t getting the balance right, but a balance that includes some degree of non-enforcement is probably a wise move.

So just spy on the passengers with remote audio and video survelliance and throw actual security out the window.

Maybe in lieu of protecting the public they can plant some nice trees in the track gauge for people to hug.
