Obviously others think so, and will probably be happy in Heights.

The areas of the Heights that will see a rise in value are the blocks that are close to Journal Square and the area with easy access to Hoboken. The rest of the Heights will remain in a coma.

Do you think the people downstream will have a chance of ever getting on?

NOPE.

Is there an hour-by-hour study of crowding on PATH trains? I ask because I take PATH from JSQ or Hoboken to WTC, usually aiming to get on the train around 9:00am to get to my office for 9:30. There is almost always space - and often a seat - on those trains, and from what I see ample room on the 33rd Street bound trains.

If this information were available, maybe people could adjust their schedules to miss the worst of the morning crush.

Also, not all cars are equally full. I think this has something to do with where the entrances to the platform are at NWK and JSQ - but just a guess.

I get on the train car that stops closest to the exit in the station where I get off. I bet I'm not the only one that does this.

It?s the latest in a series of home-state setbacks as he contemplates a presidential bid.

The latest Rutgers-Eagleton poll was conducted between Feb. 3 and Feb. 10, as these news stories about Christie were unfolding.

When asked to explain why they thought Christie's poll numbers had fallen, 20 percent of voters cited the governor's "overall attitude, behavior, and personality"; 15 percent attributed it to the "Bridgegate" scandal; and 10 percent are turned off by his presidential ambitions and lack of attention to his current job as governor.

Those areas have an actual public transportation system that works.

+100

I would prefer to have garages and require cars to be parked in the garage and not parked on the street. Denying people parking will not discourage people from owning cars. We live in an area with limited public transportation options not Manhattan which has multiple options that work.

Our pipeline is rather unprecendented in the USA because it was run directly through heavily populated areas, including directly next to several schools, nurseries and playgrounds. There was an alternative route, but Spectra didn't want to spend the money. It's an unconscionable disregard for the lives of JC residents. It is immoral, as Pebble has stated. Unfortunately, those that stand to gain on these projects rarely think about the people that may suffer because of it.

Many of the recent explosions (and there have been many - just do a google search on gas pipeline explosions) had lower body counts because they occured in unpopulated areas. Were the same type of explosion to happen to the JC pipeline, it was be a human tragedy on a scale not seen before in the USA.

My opinion is that, generations from now, we will look back at the expansion of natural gas infrastructure as a real mistake.

I am not comfortable with such a large gas pipeline near where I live but we are not the only large population center with this risk.

http://www.nfpa.org/newsandpublicatio ... sible-sprinkler-omissions

In a residential building, I don't think sprinklers go by the height of the building but more so by the amount of families/dwellings in the building. I want to say once you go past 3 families/apartments, you are required to have sprinklers. As for whether they are required in closets or bathrooms, I'm not too sure about that. I can try looking it up in the IBC or IFC one of these days. (I work for an architect.)

Sprinklers are required in high-rise buildings because the water pressure from the fire hydrants and the fire dept. pumper trucks can only spray water only so high I think it's up to the 12th floor. Don't quote me on the height.
Banks and insurance companies also require sprinklers in high rises or the projects won't get financing or insurance coverage.

This is true. In my high-rise we've been instructed by the fire department to actually stay inside our apartments with the door closed and to put a wet towel against the bottom of the door to prevent smoke seeping in. High rises built in recent years have actually been required to meet a very strict code that's designed to contain a fire, if one does break out, to a limited area. There was a case last year of a fire breaking out in a high rise in Manhattan and the two fatalities were a couple who tried to evacuate but were overcome by smoke in the stairwell. The residents who stayed put, even next door to the apartment on fire, were fine.

I love how people here tar all new construction as bad construction - as if wood frame Victorian homes don't burn like matchboxes.

when I lived in Manhattan in a brownstone the brownstone building next door caught fire and was completely engulfed in 15 minutes. All brownstone/Victorian homes are of wood frame construction and are potential firetraps. The adjoining brick wall between the buildings prevented the building I was living in from suffering the same fate.

MIkeyTCB - mark my words - there will be families moving in to these condos, they will have young children, and yes, there will be a good percentage that will send their kids to PS16. PS16 is generally considered probably the "best" of the public elementary schools in JC. But it already has capacity issues, as does the entirety of the downtown elementary schools. The City needs to do something quickly to deal with this problem. We need new schools built in downtown. The population boom is happening here.

If these condos are priced at the high end as we all suspect. The people who can afford these will not be sending their children to JC public schools. They will be in private schools. I also think that these places will not be the primary residences for most of the owners similar to the high end condos in Manhattan which are not the primary residences of these owners.

During the summer the sun is higher in the sky so I don't get direct sunlight coming in the windows as it does during the winter. I only lower the blinds at night. If it gets warm I open the windows for a nice harbor breeze. The downside to this is that my place gets a bit dustier.

Yikes. My perspective comes from being a tenant, not a landlord: I can't imagine having the heat up to 70 at ANY time. Anything over 68 degrees is very stifling to me and my skin starts to suffer from dryness. In fact, I normally turn off my A/C when I leave the house, or set it to a very low number (~62) to prevent the place from getting too cold. Of course, I do have large windows with excellent southern exposure, so the place stays relatively warm on most days.

I have big south facing windows too so I turn off the heat during the day when I'm not home. When I have been home during the day on the weekends the temp will go to 77 with the shades down and the heat is off.

I truly don't want to beat a dead horse (this debate has been going on for a very long time!) but shut down the POS Pathmark; plenty of existing parking, already set up for a grocery store and is accessible by car to people that drive (next to the high way), accessible to people by light rail (by the hospital). That area is in some dire need of rehab and an anchor such as WF will assist with just that.

The best location for wholefood is the abandoned powerhouse by 2nd street and washington.

The location is perfect - accessible by all public transportation, and walkable from all surrounding highrises. In the idea world, jersey city will offer WF tax breaks/incentive and WF will renovate the powerhouse and move in. So the neighborhood can finally solve this long time problem and avoid putting another highrise there.

But it will never happen, because we are in JC.

The building is in bad shape. Don't be surprised if the entire Powerhouse collapses before any development is started.

Being able to take the elevator to Hoboken might make up for the lack of PATH access. I can walk in the nicer weather or take the light rail.

I think JS would be a better location mainly because of the transportation options. There is not much now in the way of nice restaurants and interesting stores but in a few years there will be. No matter where you move to as a renter you will eventually be priced out of that neighborhood.
