Hero69 - you're missing the point - King Obama thinks he can wave his magic wand in the world and suddenly we have peace (he did win (err, deserve or even earn?) the Nobel Peace Prize) and all will be well. Well, look at his dismal failures in Libya (leading from behind), Benghazi (doing NOTHING so he would not risk the election while US officials were literally dying) and Iran - giving away the farm to a country that cannot be trusted, and oh, by the way, wants to destroy the US and Israel. It's easy to campaign and get up on the podium with great speeches and say how you're going to change the world (remember Hope and Change? what happened to that?) and another to actually ACCOMPLISH something. Need I go on?

Obama would shake hands with Hitler, Stalin & Mussolini if they were alive today - so he can have his "reset".

I agree - he'll be like he is as mayor but with a bigger stage (read - TV, exposure, etc.). It's wonderful that Newark's citizens have to live in fear everyday while Hollywood Cory is on Oprah, Tweeting, etc. while he ignores crime, poverty and hopelessness in his own city. (By the way - congrats to NJ's voters - you deserve what you voted for).

"But when she and her husband, Serge, a Brooklyn native, began searching for a larger apartment, the best they could find was a Crown Heights two-bedroom listed at $3,200 a month. ?It was in a questionable area and still an hour-and-five-minute commute to work,? said Ms. Madhere, an associate production manager for the Hearst Corporation.

Reluctantly, Ms. Madhere ventured to Jersey City. When she saw the Beacon, a 14-acre Art Deco complex, she was sold."

Ms. Madhere, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. Please call me.

Please read Wednesday Aug 13 WSJ editorial on this to see how the wacko judge arrived at her ruling.

TheBigGuy - +1

The liberal media has given and continues to give King Obama a pass on his foreign policy disaster as well as the ever-delayed Obamacare - why is being constantly being delayed? Because it was not well thought out, was rammed down the throats of Congress and the US public and above all is a disaster waiting to happen.

If the US does not tell Russia and China what to do/not to do who will? Just look at their voting records at the UN (which by the way is another joke of an organization).

You don't try to negotiate with bullies - you punch them in the face.

Re: HUGE GAS PIPELINE COMING - through Jersey City
Home away from home
Home away from home

moobycow - as with any new technology, these decreasing costs of production are typical (but STILL not competitive w/ natural gas, oil and coal) - remember the PC and the 16K floppy disc - now your can get several gigs for a fraction of the price back in the 1980s. You can insert any new technology into your chart (computer memory, LED/LCD TVs, genetic testing, etc.) and you'll get the same $/time profile. But aside from cost, people need to embrace the technology, which most liberals talk a good game but when it actually comes to implementing always come up with some excuse - so even if wind and solar to a lesser extent become par to coal, oil and gas, the liberal establishment will sue to block installation, so what good is it? Oh, wait, you can't put THOSE renewable energy sources THERE!
http://www.saveoursound.org/

Also, while your price charts appear to be impressive, remind you that the US Gov't did little/nothing to advance renewable energy technology - see hydraulic fracking which PRIVATE industry risked billions on and now the entire US is benefitting with lower gas prices - 1/5 the cost of natural gas in Japan for instance. While many people are against fracking due to PERCEIVED risks, King Obama conveniently takes credit for it time to time to highlight the jobs created (all before he took office) and the ingenuity of American business, despite the choking governmental regulations hamstringing the US economy.

JCbiscuit,

The self-appointed emperor in the White House (King Obama) has thrown hundreds of millions, probably Billions at the alternate fuel industry (see - Solyndra) and how's that working out?

Go rub two sticks together and eat your breakfast burrito.

ALL of you cry-babies complaining about the pipeline/explosions - what is your source of energy for heating/cooking? Yeah, I thought so. (I don't see TOO MANY solar panels/wind turbines in JC)

Also, next time you walk outside of your house/condo/apartment - walk to the street (careful, look both ways, don't get hit by a car) and blamo - guess what? You're standing above/near a gas line.

Quit complaining already!!

Never heard about 1 Greene sinking and would be somewhat surprised since its a relatively older building. Did hear that Goldman Sachs had issues - windows popping/breaking but don't know if that true, but the scaffold around GS seems to be a permanent fixture now.

FYI - Paulus Hook at one time was marshland, so the entire area is built on landfill.

Does anyone know if the new building going up on First St. between Marin and Provost is condos or rentals? It's next to the old Harbor Lights building.

Good news - work has started on the bridge - there is a crane, excavator and front loader at the site and from Aetna street south the area is fenced off. Memorial day is in two weeks - it would be great to have the bridge by then.

High rises have electric heat because you can't run gas lines and furnace vent lines 30 stories high - it's not economical to build like this, so unless they use a recirculating hot water system, which is expensive also, you're stuck with electric heating which is one of the most inefficient (read - EXPENSIVE) forms of heating.

Great - it's about time!! It doesn't look like ANY prep work has started, but that should only be a few days work and several more to put the bridge in place and install it. Hopefully it will be ready in 2 -3 weeks.

It's disappointing/frustrating that this and the rest of LSP - the walkway is STILL not completely open - 6 months after the storm.

Never heard of this, but honestly don't know all the fire code regulations. We have 16 unit condo in PH (self-managed) and store items (non-combustibles) in the basement. Our basement has a sprinkler system. There are definitely regs about storing items in the halls/blocking egress. FWIW, the JCFD has inspected our bldg every year over the past three years and we've never been cited for basement storage. Seems like the management company could be pulling your chain for whatever reason.

Re: Future of Newport Mall

The gravel path is at the end of Jersey Ave and a small street - Aetna St by the NJ Turnpike. It's not a "path" that you'd want to take your children on. Put the bikes in the car and ride to the park until the bridge is re-built.

OK, let's keep a positive spin on that...: I think there are more than 0.1% HP residents walking to the waterfront from what I see and discussing with neighbors - more walk/bike commuters for sure. That being said the Mall acts as a separator for sure but it is hard to imagine it going away even by the power of the Holy Spirit...
As for the access to LSP, I did a run last sunday from DTJC to Ellis Island and back using the gravel path by the soon-to-be replaced-we-hope bridge around Morris Canal. Following this, a concrete slab and a path carved in the vegetation, one can relatively quickly access the other end. This little loop did not add much work to my run and there were skateboarders and a few people including bikers, it is starting to be known.

Frinjc - is the Aetna St path to LSP open again - I thought the pipeline construction is blocking that route to the park and you need to go up to Pacific and Johnston Ave to get into the park by foot?

That being said, I ran along the waterfront yesterday and the walkway from Crystal Point to Avalon Cove/Newport has finally be repaired and opened - no more running on Washington St to get to Hoboken!

The interior lighting is nearly done, the bathroom has been fixed, the sign has been ordered and should be ready in a few days.

We need to install a few sinks and water lines (haven't settled on a plumber yet), and have to order some equipment, put some fresh paint on the walls, etc.

Once the plumbing work is done, the rest is easy work to do...

So our fingers are crossed.

You're getting close to opening and you haven't "settled" on a plumber yet?? Yeah right, you'll open soon. Good luck.

The place near Grove (actually Marin and Montgomery) for $70/month you need to be out by 9AM and can't enter before 5PM. Weekends you can come and go as you please. For 24 hr parking it is (or was) $180/month.

Re: OPEN JERSEY AVENUE TO LIBERTY STATE PARK!!

This is the pipeline project. I went running during the week while they were putting stakes in the ground to mark out the digging. I asked one of the workers and he said that the work will take about a month in that area.

Went running in the park today and Freedom Way is clear and dry but the footpath parallel to Freedom Way is plowed only from the point were the access road to Ellis Island is to the southern end of the park. The walkway along the water is not plowed at all - still snow covered.

Good to have most of the park back, hopefully they'll keep it open past 5PM once we get into daylight savings time.
