I feel you. You wouldn't catch me wearing one. I was just a suprised in Europe when I saw all the "man's bags" but I was then distracted by all the topless women on the beaches so I guess it's a wash.

Oh no no no my friend, nothing like a messenger bag. Im talking full on lady purse being worn by men. There is a big differene between a messanger bag and a purse, not even in the same ballpark. A purse is meant for a WOMAN.

I just got back from Spain and about half the men were wearing what you would call a lady's purse. They were probably European, it doesnt make them a pussy as you imply.

Home away from home

Went last night around 11pm and it was still a great deal of people outside, the crowd was thinner inside but what do you expect for a Wed night at 11pm.

I was blown away with the sheer size of the place. They did an amazing job putting it together and it's definitely a plus for the neighborhood.

I don't understand how anyone can have anything bad to say about this place. It's still in its soft opening and they are getting the kinks out of it.

The TV screen is the size of a small house and the picture was pretty damn good. GO YANKS!!!!

I feel bad for the rest of the area's bar owners as this place will be taking away a lot of its customers.

The prices were great too.

Totally agree with you. It will cost another million dollars to just find the old docs.

The reserve doesn't make sense to me either. Especially since if you go to Liberty Realty's website they have 1bdr's at The Beacon listed for $225,000... so you can get the units cheaper than the auction price.

Guess I'll either have to speak to them or wait for the next auction, all of which is predicated on my selling my current condo in Hoboken. Failing that, I'll have to move back into it.

Those one bedrooms that are being listed on Liberty for lower prices are the bottom of the barrell units on low floors with no views.

I don't live in the Beacon or in it's area but it's good for all Jersey City property owners that they did well at the auction. I'm not a realtor either.

I'm very happy for the Beacon owners and Metrovest. Their continued success will only help to bring their neighborhood up to the high standards that some of us downtown have been holding them to.

Curbcuts in brownstone neighborhoods is a major NO NO in my book. That is unless you turn the first floor into a garage and part your vehicle inside.

Ate here when it first opened. Very nice. We also really liked the ZYLO steakhouse that is in the new W hotel in Hoboken. Had a great time at both places, W was fun after dinner for drinks though.

The area isn't too good? Wibbit the area is just fine.

Millon Dollar plus townhouses are right across the street on Wayne, Mercer and Varick.

The only way you can get in Dixon right now is to rent from one of the owners or buy a unit. I know that a few owners have their places on the market due to relocation but you can probably get a better industrial rental elsewhere if you are just looking for a work space. The rentals here would be a little more in money with less space that a regular work loft.

Thinking of renting out condo while on vacation.... Stories? Recomended Services?
Home away from home
Home away from home

Going to be doing some traveling this summer and was thinking about renting my condo to vacationers.
Friends of mine do it all the time at their apartment downtown in the city.
I understand this isn't NYC but they were getting about $150 for a 1 bedroom per night.
They used a service called nyhabitat.com but is there a similar service for Jersey? We are close enough to all the destinations in NYC so why not?
I really don't want to go down the craiglist road if possible.
Any thoughts from the peanut gallery? past stories?

I agree with you that the Astoria beer garden has an enyoable atmosphere but it's hardly late 30's to 50's crowd.

More like late twenties/early thirties to mid 40's crowd at best.

They don't have a DJ, and I don't anticipate the Zepplein to have one either, unless they will be playing polka music.

I just don't see a DJ as part of a beer garden scene. It would be a bad business move. I think they are going after a different demographic. I just don't see a bunch of hood rats and guidos ordering Delirium and Duvel.

We can only wait and see.

Not Journal Square. THE HEIGHTS!!! Most of the heights is pretty cut off from the PATH. You could run it up to the Secaucus junction.

DISCLAIMER: I don't live in the heights but feel it would be a good thing for the city.

That's why they need to build a light rail extension next to the embankment on 6th street connecting the heights to newport line. Make 6th street one way with the light rail taking up the other lane and sidewalk on the south side.

One of the posters suggested it on the Embankment thread.

I'm not knocking our fiends from Hamilton Park, but please pick up after your dogs. That's why we have bags.

Please! My wife lived near VVP when we first met and there was always poop in the run and in the park. It is not a new thing and VVP is way too far to make it worth the trip from HP. We mostly go to Enos Jones or our new secret dog-run.
If we caught people not picking up here we'd let them know it. Don't f**k with HP dog owners.

My GF or I am at the VVP dog run everyday expect when it's raining. There is clearly more dog crap not being picked up in the run in the past few weeks. Numerous owners have said the same thing. My GF has gone as far as picking up the random piles so that we don't have to look or step in it.

There are plenty of HP dog owners using the dog run these past few weeks. The amount of dogs in the run at any given time has doubled.

Why are taking it so personal? If you are not using VVP why do you care so much?

Did anyone else get their tax bills yesterday? Mine came with a letter from Healy informing that he keep my taxes stable with no increase.

Brillant pollitical move. Sending out the tax bills the same day of the election with no increase as all our neighboring towns and cities got whacked with increases this year.

Say what you will about Healy, the man know how to play the game.

I was happy with my bill.

Had delivery over the weekend. HORRIBLE!!!

I eaten there before and it's been good. Even ordered delivery before and it's been ok.

This weekend's delivery was horrible. The pulled pork was almost unedible and the casaer salad was worse than one of those salads in a bag.

Not sure what they are doing but I won't be back for quite sometime.

USE IT TO PAVE THE ROADS!!!!

If I have to replace another flat tire I'm going to flip out. Those damn low profile runflats get bubbles when you hit these enormous potholes, and at $250 a pop I can hardly afford to keep replacing them. I've shredded two in the past year and it looks as though I'm going to need another one soon.

You know its funny you say this. Some of the biggest douche bags Ive ever met have been these "well educated yuppies". Now when I say douch bags I mean have the same mentality as a highschool jock and absolutly nothing of value to say unless in some way it benefits them or makes them look better. Id rather talk to a squirell, thats not to say all of them are like this because I know how most of you get upset when a generalization is made.

I think you are confusing Yuppies with Frat Boys. Two different species. One is obsessed with upward mobility and status and the other likes beer and poontang.

Both don't mug people for I-Pods but an be annoying at best.

His number is 201-8638416. Tell him Adam Dahill referred you.
