These areas are about as safe as a city this size can be. Not sure why Wayne and Barrow get bad raps as myself and many friends walk down these streets late at night with no issue. Of course, like any municipality crime does (rarely) occur, but all in all a great neighborhood!

I must say, as much as I look to Yvonne and co.'s ramblings for entertainment, some of her diatribe here is just priceless.

Elizabeth Cain is an amazing accomplished woman and anyone who says all she does is run a pet store clearly knows nothing about her (and I'm sure is too cowardly to say it to her face). Yvonne will obsess over this like she does over McGreevy, but the former governor is doing a great job in prisoner reentry and I have spoken to several of the first graduates who say nothing but great things about him.

Yvonne, we all know you and your right-wing compatriots don't like the Mayor. That's why you will run the looney-toon ticket in 3 years, and if JC voters find a Lonegan-esque platform suits the city well, you will win.

Maybe you can run! We all know how much you like touting yourself as the most accomplished activist, and how you loooooooove hearing your own voice at council meetings.

I can't be the only one who thinks you REALLY need a hobby! Or significant other, anything! It's sad.

Fascinating crowd here. Had taxes gone up of course the masses would have been out with pitchforks, but even when they go slightly down some sad miserable people have a reason to complain (which I guess is the M.O. of many posts here). While I ultimately do pity you folk, I think some people will always inherently find a reason to be negative and complain. In addition, I know many people have completely written off this Mayor because he did not blindly follow their pet issue.

Of course consolidating the city government, a broad expansion of after school and recreational programs, putting police officers back on the beat, investing in parks, an already successful prisoner reentry and employment program, etc... are all insignificant accomplishments and don't matter. Only "my" issue matters!

But- do not despair miserable ones! There will certainly be unsuitable and under prepared candidates to waste money on in 3 years time.

I had seen a list of streets where they were doing this posted here last week but it didn't include Columbus. News articles indicated that Columbus was slated for a second wave of towings/snow removal as of last week (see here http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?sec ... cal/new_jersey&id=9437150). So why couldn't some flyers been put on windshields/in resident's mailboxes if there was a 5 day delay in the plan.

Now I have to go get my car from a lot on Montgomery and Jorden which is highly inconvenient.

Jersey City, you are wearing on me.

I would also recommend following the Mayor and Council members on twitter and Facebook. They are very active on social media with updates such as this one. If JC is wearing on you I wouldn't move to another city, having lived in most major US cities.

the FY 2014 budget will be this Mayor's first budget. Although local right-winger Fletch will disagree, the fact remains the only way they could have not lowered taxes was by reducing fire and/or police budgets for the remainder of 2013. No other cuts were viable at that point. Of course this does not play well for these failed candidates' plots, but it remains to be the only truth.

Abdul Malik is a complete and utter joke. I am friends with many in the local Paki community and I remember last year they would laugh whenever I asked about him. Fun fact: he claims to be a doctor but has never been licensed to practice medicine in the U.S.

wow Yvonne, your videography skills are really improving. Too bad this mockumentary is filled with half truths and stinks of your blatant bias against anything Mayor Fulop does.

Do you have any idea how much money the city would throw away if they chose to sue the labor unions or simply revoke the contracts they signed with them years ago because they believe they aren't honoring the spirit of the PLA? Do you have any understanding of how poor of a case the city would have? Then, of course, you and by our lackey Fletcher will say how Mayor Fulop is wasting tax payer money on frivolous lawsuits. Also, you highlight the few unions who backed the Mayor, but of course fail to mention that MOST of the unions backed his opponent.

Also, there are few departments where the City has full control over who is hired. One of them is the police force. I assume you chose to ignore the record number of women and minorities who are entering the latest police academy class?

Your fanatical religious and Tea party views aside, you are really showing a Michael Moore-like ability to bend these issues towards your personal biases. I love it. Cannot wait for you and your merry men/women to waste more money in a few years. You made a few million selling your brownstone, so what's a few hundred thousand down the drain?

Look at this Forbes article. #1 State people are leaving is NJ once again in 2013.

The number 1 reason? Out of control spending and INSANE property taxes that have spiraled out of control.

Back in July, I went before City Council when Team Fulop gave us a 7.9% tax increase. Spoke out about tax increases, with a very padded new final budget, with lots of patronage jobs. With ZERO cuts in spending. http://youtu.be/E4WSIdA4B-M

For 2014, Jersey City's main priority has to be getting tax relief to the citizens of Jersey City. Instead, The Fulop Administration is STILL giving out tax abatements to wealthy developers. 35 years for JSQ development and now another one for DOWNTOWN coming up for the Majestic 2 in the heart of downtown. Even 10 years is too much.

And Fulop canceled the reval, so folks living in million dollar brownstones, are paying taxes like its 1980's versus their fair share. And if you are a new owner say the past decade, you are getting screwed.

So of course people are fleeing. No one wants to fix the problem.

Remember this in 2017 folks.

Fletch

Uh oh! Team Fletcher is starting his campaign speech!

Fletch, I cannot wait for you and Yvonne to mount another unsuccessful campaign. Although she has lots of money to waste after selling her brownstone for a few million $$$, I wonder how much disposable income you have to waste?

I truly look forward to highlighting your steadfast support for NEWT GINGRICH and Team Yvonne's standing behind the great Tea Party advocate Steve Lonegan. Just perusing Newt's stances on issues, I cannot wait to equate those with you.

Also, while I have no doubt you will continue to spread misinformation, the truth is that this budget for 2013 was over half spent by the time the Council voted on it. The only areas that were open to cuts were the police and fire. SHOULD THEY HAVE CUTE POLICE OR FIRE SERVICES? And what about the services that have been cut? What about the millions that the administration has cut since passing the budget? Why don't you talk about that? Not convenient to your campaign rhetoric?

Looking forward to negative campaigning the hell out of you and Team Yvonne. What you spend, we will spend against you.

Re: dog question

I don't think it's over the top at all to say all breeders are evil. When we in the U.S.A. are KILLING MILLIONS OF DOGS and someone is artificially breeding "brand name" dogs for the sake of profits, that makes me sick. When the shelters are empty then please, breed away.

Yes, people love their "breeder dogs" because they view them as a piece of property like a handbag or new pair of shoes (yes, I know the law agrees with this viewpoint). If you valued dogs as living, emotional creatures, you would NOT be ok with the holocaust happening right now across this country and the mass killing of healthy dogs.

And French Bulldogs/Pugs, etc... do their owners even comprehend how uncomfortable their lives are? "Reputable" breeders have turned them into these mutant animals that have severe breathing issues and decreasing life spans. French Bulldogs cannot even reproduce on their now, doesn't that tell you something???

These "reputable" breeders pay dues to the AKC to be certified. The AKC uses a large portion of these dues to lobby state governments in the midwest where puppy mills thrive, because the mills are the largest bloc of financial support to the AKC. The AKC makes sure these states don't enforce existing laws and don't create stricter ones. So while your little toy is winning you ribbons and trophies, puppy mills thrive.

It is insane to me that someone with a functioning brain can possibly justify giving a commercial breeder hundreds/thousands of dollars for an animal that is simultaneously going through a mass killing across this country. You can just say "I don't care and want my designer breeder dog" and there's nothing I can say other than you are heartless.

/end rant

The term "reputable breeder" is akin to "harmless bomb." A dog is a living emotional being, not a branded handbag to buy.

See Spot Rescued gets the best dogs while breeders profit off of the euthanization of 4 million innocent pups a year. I've met so many See Spot Rescued dogs around town and they are just exceptional. Another local rescue I've met the founder is called Animal Lighthouse Rescue.

PLEASE do not buy from any breeder!!!

Adoptions are up while "sales" are down, so why not be on the right side of history?

My wife had the lamb burger and it was downright awful. The patty was grey it was so over cooked and again there was no seasoning. You have to TRY to make lamb flavorless. I don't get it.

I will say the fries and service were excellent this time.

That's probably the last time we'll be there and it's unfortunate since the location and atmosphere is great. They probably don't need our support anyways since it's always packed. Would've been nice to have another regular spot in the neighborhood, though.

If we don't fight this parasitic development, we could be seeing it all over JC. And yes, the Fulop administration is promising to improve the development process. At this point, however, I see no reason to have confidence in any of their promises.

LOL. I'm sure some lawyer told you that this was a slam dunk case, but it's not. The city would be insane to spend millions of dollars now to bring this developer to court, when the developer followed the rules. If Mayor Fulop committed to bringing this to litigation, it would likely end up costing the city millions of dollars in legal fees, and the case law suggests the city will lose any such lawsuit. This is NOT a slam dunk case and the case law is just so strongly favoring the developer. In addition, I know that the city's chief counsel looked into all legal options the city had to block this, and none such option exists.

They are also being called upon their hypocritical religious revolving cloath by the US Constitution. Hopefully they will end up realizing that people have similar expectations in life which translate into similar behavior, something a 4 years old would have no issue picking up. Well, that's what the supreme court here found out today. In the end there is no real rational to deny equal treatment to gay couples. If Yvonne wants to offer gratis religiously sanctionned weeding cakes to couples of her choosing she can, the moment she sells them she can not discriminate.

You made her point entirely. Do you think that the Catholic Church, for example, should be forced to perform gay marriages? Or a Catholic hospital perform abortions? Why are Islamic families banned from practicing their religion here, ie multiple spouse marriages? Will the pro gay marriage people support that, because now marriage is opened up from one man/one woman to men/men or women/women? What about their rights? Will we see a return to traditional LDS plural marriages?

My point has been to allow all to have civil unions for Federal and State realities, and marriages to be religious, regardless of sex, religion, and number of partners. Isn't that a win/win? It seems the gay lobby wants to enforce a 'make straight and gay 'marriage' equivalent, and shut the barn door behind us' issue. It's an intellectually dishonest argument.

Wow, you got stones to use the phrase " intellectually dishonest argument"! I can't figure out in your argument who is harmed if gays can be called "married" rather than "unionized" if all civil protections are granted? As for Yvonne's theoretical bakery, it's not a religious institution, and therefore falls under civil law. Would you seriously defend a baker who wouldn't sell to an interracial couple? It's no different. No one favors forcing priests to marry gays any more than forcing them to marry non-catholics. What do you really care then if religious institutions that don't hate gays marry them? How are you harmed? As far as I can tell, in the name of your freedom of religion you want to deny others theirs.

You're trying to find logic where there is none. The religious right wants U.S. law to be based on their Christian Church's theology. Hence, they want the U.S. to be a theocracy, where all citizens are subject to their religious beliefs.

OK, thanks for the history lesson-but the fact remains that our Founding Fathers worked from a Christian basis, with God as their moral compass. Marriage meant what it meant, and making it 'marriage' wasn't on their compass, not for same sex couples or polygamous families or any other 'grouping' that will now be 'allowed'.
Our founding fathers also enslaved people, so you know, they weren't infallible.

Regarding your "let's get the right and benefits" linked to civil union, and religion linked to marriage. Churches don't own the word marriage, plenty of people get married at city hall. The word marriage is the only recognized across cultures and countries, your proposal has been considered before and is impracticable.

Catholic churches will not be not forced to perform gay marriage ritual. Catholic hospitals that offer services and also benefit from State aid will not be able to discriminate against the people they take in, and they will still be able to decide if they want to provide abortion service or not. If they do, they have to offer it to everyone. There is nothing "gay" or "slippery" about this. I think you projected quite a bit incorrectly on my previous message.

Nonsense, and you know it. Why do the 'progressives' fight for at will abortion for 13 year olds without parental control because they fear the 'slippery slope' against abortion 'rights', but ignore the desires of those with religious beliefs from defending against the same 'slippery slope', such as those who support traditional marriage from refusing to host gay marriages, for example, at their catering halls? Having it both ways is intellectually dishonest, of course.

one fundamental difference is that your christian beliefs should have absolutely zero say in public policy. sure, if you or a private institution want to make decisions based on the church's policies, that's fine, but why should the public at large be influenced at all by some religious doctrine they weren't raised on and don't follow?

should we all follow zoroastrian principles because there are some zoroastrians in NJ?
