Re: Will PSE&G Solar Panels be Placed in Front of your Historic Home? They are coming soon to JC!
Home away from home
Home away from home

I heard there is some talk about now removing the solar panels on the lamp posts because they are not historically correct. Neither are the power lines if you think about it, and they are the real blight on the city. If the solar panels provide any cost benefit why would you take them down?
Does anyone know the actual facts?
Don't let the city government do something stupid because a few people don't think they are historically correct.

Not to mention that a gas pipeline UNDER your restaurant is probably alot more dangerous than a doggie in the market. I'm just sayin'.....

Do we need this thread?

Re: Health Hazard Concern

I'm not buying the dog - closing correlation. I'm thinking the number of restaurants that close every year that never allowed dogs is way higher than than the ones that did. Fact is most restaurants fail. And I don't sit in restaurants, except outside in the summer with my dog, it's got to be in and out, because despite the fact that I think most people should worship my dog as much as I do, my logical self thinks it's rude.
Having said that, I think people WALKING their dogs into restaurants and bodegas is pretty gross. I don't care how well trained they are you just never know when they'll decide they smell something that they want to pee on. Of course you could say that about some toddlers too......just kidding.....mostly....

Guess what? I pick my pom up and bring her in the pizzeria and chinese place all the time for take out. I pop her in a bag and bring her into C town and various bodegas all the time too. AND I will never stop. Feel free to bitch at me if you see us!
In the meantime can you ask the parents of all those snotty coughing sneezing toddlers to tie them up to a parking meter before they go into a food store? THAT would be awesome.

Of course there's a plot to retake the park. Dog owners are the only worthwhile people on the planet. The plot was hatched the second they started renovations. All that playground equipment was a ploy to distract people from the real goal. Yup it's chihuahuas versus toddlers. Smart money's on the chihuahuas.

I sort of like the leashes for kids, leashes for dogs idea. Leashes for everyone! And none of those leashes that allow roaming. Leashes should not be longer than 4 ft. And they should be reflective for safety. And they should be made from recyclable material. And they should be attached to the owner (parent, spouse...et al) by a safety/nylon strap. And they should have one of those poop bag dispensers attached. And a fine for anyone without the Hamilton Park Dog Police approved leash. And if you don't pay the fine there will be a 10 Most Wanted list on the little bulletin board in front of the park and you will be shunned by all who see you.

The park is fraught with peril? It really is. Once my pomeranian was ticked off by a toddler running around in the pet zone and she stamped her feet. The pomeranian, not the toddler. Scary stuff. True peril.

They have the best burger in town, I'm not kidding. The roll is like a ciabatta roll. The burger patty is this awesome beef, they make it fresh too, it's not frozen.

I'm also obsessed with the meatballs. And the calzone.

I loved the part about the rent hike too. We need more posers and ex-pats who only live here for a year or two because it's convenient and really don't give a crap about the neighborhood.
Enjoy that while you can landlord, the rent boom isn't going to last, it never does. Owning will cost as much as renting(or be less) and the economy will eventually plateau allowing people to buy again, albeit at much lower prices.

I ordered pizza from Carmine's a few times, I thought it was good and more of a NY style pizza. Then I called for a pizza the girl who answered the phone put me on hold and never picked up. And I heard her in the background say "I know who it is". Wtf? I was ordering a pizza. I'm nice and tip decently, no clue why I was getting such a bizarre attitude.
Go to Delenio for attitude free food.

Re: Blown In Insulation - Contractors / Outcome?

I too had/have the same problem. I had the cellulose insulation blown in and it was only marginally effective. The spray foam was much more expensive but maybe better. It probably creates a better seal and stays in place. I reallyshould have done more research. All I can say is that the cellulose didn't do much.

Some of the food is really good, some is so-so. Some of the prices are decent, some are kind of ridiculous. Sometimes the service is good, sometimes it sucks. Zero consistency.
It's nice to have a pleasant place in the neighborhood to go to, but if it was gone it wouldn't ruin my day.

I was woefully disappointed with the food at this year's festival. The kielbasa was the Hillshire Farms turkey kielbasa type sausage, not the real kielbasa from the Polish butcher. The stuffed cabbage was 95% rice. Last year the kielbasa was the real thing. The pierogis were very good though. That pretty much made it all worthwhile.

I didn't see any Polish beer.

Re: Dollar Buses

Say whatever you want but at the end of the day it's all about supply and demand. Clearly there is demand for the stinky, unsafe, nonenglish speaking driver vans.

Personally I've never gotten a smelly one, but I will stipulate that they do exist.

Unsafe? I hope not, but I'm not convinced NJT is a whole lot better, I'm just not.

Non-english speaking? It's an educational opportunity!!! I have learned to say "La Proxima" and I'm damn proud of it! I didn't say I could spell it.

I have empathy Bass Face, I really do, no sarcasm I promise, I'm just not convinced the outcome would've been better on NJT.
I can imagine how much restraint it must've taken not to beat the crap out of the "dispatcher", but it's not we've never heard about surly public servants either.

The dollar bus, also known as the jitney, or immi, ROCKS.
Real people, providing a service, making a living. Are they a luxury ride? Duh, get a clue. You get where you need to go at a fair price.

Suck it Juan - the immi isn't going any where any time soon.

I applaud the entrepreneurial spirit of the guys who run the Immi's. They provide a needed service. If the drivers are breaking laws, the cops need to do something. Why are they all parked at 10th and Manila? That is a hazard. Who is calling the cops to report them? In the meantime, go Immi.

Instead of complaining about how annoying it is to drive behind them, be happy you are able to afford a car.

Re: Maybe there should be sales or renter's tax in JC
Home away from home
Home away from home

I recently filed a property tax appeal. Having said that:

1) the landlord who owns the rental property pays property tax and the theory is that cost is calculated in the cost of the rental, so it's not like the renter or the property owner are getting off without paying taxes

2) "Don't buy a property you can't afford?" - ok are you retarded or just don't you realize you live in the corruption capital of the world? Affordable property becomes unaffordable when property taxes are raised by crazy percentages (like 16% in 2 years) because corrupt politicians have cover budget gaps created when they either stole the money outright, kicked it back somewhere or took money for crazy tax abatements from the developers they are in bed with creating a revenue shortfall.

Re: Ready to give up living in this city...
Home away from home
Home away from home

I have all the same issues, PATH, taxes, flooding....on top of that I'm in a small condo where the other owners are not rich either and the building is deteriorating and probably not much will be done about it. On top of that all the neighborhood dogs seem to want to attack my pomeranian. It's very easy to get depressed, but I try to remind myself that there's no point. I just have to accept the situation and hope that the real estate prices turn around at some point in the next 10 years. I have my moments where I just want to walk away, but there are some really good neighbors (the ones without pitbulls, that want to eat my dog) , so one day at a time.

Venting helps. Maybe we should start a meetup "JC Homeowners - Misery Loves Company"
