Re: united water bills

I was on the phone with them last week for a different issue, but she said they went up 17 percent in the last year.
Water bills generally do go up in summer, (more showers, gardens) but I don't know any rule of thumb percentage.

Wow. What a mess of a thread. But hamiltonparkjc is right. If you're gonna post this kind of accusation (1st post at that) you gotta back it up. Is the reason you didn't post on the other thread is cause Webbie said you had to post your name and affiliation?

thanks all.

JCGirl. I have employed the power of google. Good thing about forums like these is personal insight. Example: "so and so beach isn't officially dog friendly but people have dogs at the sound end and don't get bothered" type thing.

Does anyone know if any of these beaches are dog friendly, or where the closest one is?

I used Kook and sons this week based on this thread.
They did a good job and were cheaper than I thought they would be.

Re: The Hamilton Inn

Home away from home

Went last Saturday for the 2nd time (first was a month after it opened).

Food was still great and the service was still lacking.
2 girls next to us we even laughing about it and clapping their hands over their heads to get the waiter's attention.

We still left 15 percent tip (instead of the usual 20) cause you never know - could be the kitchen's fault or someone calling in sick.

Has anyone else noticed improvements to the service? Not that it would necessarily keep from from going but I would know what to expect.

It can make a better school even better. A McNair student asked us for help for his/her school. So give it to him/her. (If a high school student from one of the other schools ask I would vote for them too). Instead of going into racial quotas and the embarrassment of JC public schools as a whole, help the student out!!!

Re: Music Box 7th and Monmouth

I live a little less than a block away.

As opposed to Barrow or Lucky 7's - which has a constant stream of loud smoking hipsters outside, sometimes joined by this old guy I'll admit, Music box is usually quieter. But when a fight does break out it is loud and sounds scarier than a couple of drunks pissed at each other for knocking over a drink. Kinda like something corked in that explodes. Happens about 4 times a year. Summers are usually worse but this summer has seemed mellower.

People hang out at heir cars late at night and stare you down as you walk by. Very creepy but no one has ever said anything to me. That starts later so the kids should be in bed by then.

Broken glass is my biggest gripe.

Instead of my signature, on all my cards, I've written "REQUEST PHOTO I.D."

Solves that particular problem.

I have that on my signature line as well.
I'd say 1 in 50 actually ask for it.

I'm sure the The White Star gets the occasional outside loud drunk, but not so bad.

The park isn't too loud at night. The loudest is the summer announcer for the little league games, but that's mostly during the day.

Ask some of your potential future neighbors.

Leigh, I don't want to get in a pissing match with you, cause I agree with your sentiments about mixed income neighbors and most of the people in lower income neighborhoods are hard working honest people. But the the fact remains that car thefts, break-ins, rapes, muggings, vandalism, robbery, etc. are higher in lower income areas. Crime follows money is not accurate. I remember the first time I heard the stat I wondered why they didn't rob in wealthier neighborhoods, but chalked it up to criminals being lazy.

Back to the original story, I'm glad I didn't see it, cause my first instinct would probably to say something rather than call the cops, and I'd probably get my ass kicked.

I remember a few years back the Path website stating that folding bikes were OK. Then a year later my wife bought one, but when I looked again it there was no mention of folding bikes (maybe a subtle way of deterring them on the trains). But I see from posts 6 and 7 they are OK.

Really, so that's the problem? How about the fact that I live about a half block away from the courts and directly adjacent to Cordero School? Because I chose to live next to a school I feel I forfeit my right to complain about kids' noise. The courts have been there forever. Did those who moved in across the street from them ask about court noise before they bought or leased? Or did they think that kids would just try to play a little quieter?

The courts are here to stay and if you think they're unpopular, ask around.

I get your point sandstone, but you also didn't expect the school noise to be happening at 3AM, which I'm sure you don't on any kind of regular basis.

I don't mind the courts, but I sympathize with people who live next to them. Seems to me it should of been fenced up and locked like the Enos Jones baseball fields. They had been a problem before, just like the off leash dogs. They had the foresite to deal with rules and accommodations for that problem, but not for the BB court noise.

Email from the HPNA:

Attn: All Hamilton Park guests

Are you concerned with protecting your 4-legged companions, our $3.2 million restored greenspace and your loved ones?

Please come to the next Police Captain's Meeting Tues June 22, 7pm MS4 on Bright/Varick to discuss how we can cooperate to enforce existing ordinances, dog-run rules, and to protect our dogs and children. This is our only opportunity to discus this with the Captain this summer so it's important to attend if you are able.

Stucco
Home away from home
Home away from home

We have some stucco, around the windows in our brownstone, which is starting to crumble and fall down. We had some roof work done recently by a company that also does masonry. When I asked him about it he said we need a stucco company.

As I am new to this I am reaching out for some advice.
Do I need a company that specializes in stucco or should I call general contractors? Is he correct that I shouldn't call masons?(seems to me they go hand in hand).

Can anyone recommend a reliable company for this type of job?

Thanks in advance.
