This makes me feel quite safe, especially since I am seriously considering these condos in Jersey City.

Do you get paid by the post or is it part of your overall job description at Liberty Harbor? Just curious.

PS: I'm a LH fan but you are kind of wrecking it for me with this.

No, but the south east corner of Gulls Cove has some signage already. Still looks like they have some work to do.

anyone up for collecting all the shopping carts and creating a float out of them for the next parade down Newark? Could be kind of fun to then leave the float of carts at a random intersection blocking everything and causing the police to get involved. I'm sure BJ's would love that publicity.

Hmm, a post talking about how great the sales people are.

And a whole new thread talking about the great security.

Attempted armed carjacking:

They need cameras in the lot with monitors inside the store for the security guard to see. And if he sees anyone just hanging around, they need to be approached and told to leave. If people know the lot is aggressively patrolled, they will go elsewhere when they are desperate for cash. Right now it's too easy a target.

Re: Liberty Harbor safety

Just can't stay away

I think we should put cameras everywhere, that will stop crime. Cameras everywhere are not the answer. There will be some guy sitting at a desk watching fifty monitors, and you'll get robbed and he wouldn't even notice. How about demanding more security patrols on the property or walking security guards outside all night, motion lights are good, or just more street lights period.

If you think because you building has cameras on the front door, and elevator, in the hallway, at the gabage compactor, that you will be safe then you are wreong. By the time some sees you getting robbed or beat up on camera, runs over to see what is going on, then calls the police , you're looking at at least five minutes.

A front doorman is always a good idea, he gets to know people after a while and always knows if someone doesn't belong. Some of the buildings in downtown have those magnetic locks on the front door, if you give them a good yank the door opens right up, no alarm goes off no security comes running.

MLK has dozens of cameras on it and people still manage to get robbed, beat up and killed. Face it people most real criminals aren't stupid they know how to keep a cameras front either seeing them or being able to identify them. Wake up pay attention to what is going on around you. I grew up in this city, have lived all over it, walked it at all hours of the day and night, and have never been robbed, pay attention to your surroundings, walk with alittle confidence, if it's late at night or early in the day and you see someone walking towards you take a look at them let them know that you are aware that they are there, if you hear someone behind you look back for a second, it will help you judge the distance they are from you so you can react if you have to.

Bottom line people take your heads out of your butts. Most crimes that happen on the street are crimes of opportunity. If an individual thinks that he can get away with something at that moment he will try something, if not he keeps going until he finds someone that he can take advantage of. Stop relying on gadgets to keep you safe and rely on common sense.

Newport has the most cart thieves. They steal so many they have a dedicated storage area to the left of the East Hampton tower.

I'm actually making an appointment for Thursday to check out 2 bedrooms. Our lease runs out on 11/1, so we're hoping we can find something within our price range rather than renting any further.

I have one friend who lives there currently and she's extremely happy. She loves the amenities and her Viking stove .

This is the 2nd serious incident at that parking lot in about one week. It's a magnet for trouble as it's the only 24 hour store in the area. I saw some problems there a few years back and emailed Walgreens corporate via their website, and they seemed to take it very seriously. I got phone calls back from both corporate and local store management. The security guards they hire seem to just sit there instead of frequently checking the parking lot and making loiterers move on. I can't believe they don't appear to have any cameras in the parking lot after all this. If anyone out there frequents this store, and cares about your safety at night there, please go to this page, click on "Safety" and fill out the form:

Lead poisoning hinders not only learning but impulse control.

Expect more crime if it isn't cleared up.

The children's blood should be tested as well.

Re: Whitlock Cordage Interrupted?

First: It has been under construction for 5 years. Too long if you ask me.
Second: There has been no coordination with the city and the developer. Traffic and infrastructure were not considered at all.
Third:Once again this is a development that excludes the rest of the neighborhood but will pour its tenants onto the streets.
Fourth: They will have their own shuttle that will take them to the light rail, creating more traffic but it is only for Whitlock residents
Fifth: their commercial property will only be for Whitlock residents.
Sixth: Have not hired any local contractors to work on the job.
Seventh: Our planning dept let them build right to the property line where as in downtown they create beautiful landscaping and large fancy sidewalks....

I can keep going but I'm just getting more upset typing this.

The Culver Avenue resident said he was riding his bike in the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail parking lot on Mallory Avenue at 10:15 p.m. when three teens wearing white T-shirts approached him saying, "Give me your bike."

One of them acted as though he had a weapon stashed in his pocket. The victim did not see a weapon, but he handed over his Mongoose mountain bike worth $110, reports said.

Absolutely. I grew up in a rotten neighborhood in JC, but Cub Scouts, Little League, and CYO made the difference. A decent percentage of us joined the military, went to college, or went to work. There was no magic solution except keeping busy and having some kind of structure in the home. Can't put this whole burden on teachers or law enforcement.

The city even had something like a sunshine fund that took the entire neighborhood in chartered buses to state parks and beaches when school was out. Seemed like a small price to pay to keep 30 preteens busy during the summer.

They should really check the Drinking Fountains -- this is a common problem all over the country.

It is easy to change these out.

Minneapolis City Hall Removes Drinking Fountains Over Lead Contamination
Water lines flushed at City Hall to reduce lead

Friday, 27 Jun 2008
Fox News
by Bill Keller and Mike Durkin

MINNEAPOLIS -- Public drinking fountains at Minneapolis City Hall have been removed after tests found excessive levels of lead contamination.

In April, employees at the city?s largest and oldest building were told some drinking fountains were being removed.

TESTING FOR LEAD

After conducting a comprehensive test of nearly 300 faucets, the city learned 42 exceeded the national standard for lead contamination.

?Of those 42, there may have been 10 drinking fountains, several ice makers, sinks, fixtures?? Jose Cervantes of the Municipal Building Commission said. ?All meet the standard today.?

OLD PLUMBING

The Municipal Building Commission says it?s not an issue of the water quality, but outdated plumbing in the 100-year-old building.

?Most of the water is great, some is not, so we're fixing that,? Mayor R.T. Rybak said. For several years, Rybak has been encouraging people to stop wasting money and resources on bottled water and start drinking from the tap.

FLUSHING THE LINES

To solve the problem, the city began a program to regularly flush the water lines. Cervantes says the flushing moves the water through the pipes so it?s not stagnant, sitting in old pipes.

The flushing has kept the lead levels in check at most locations. In places flushing didn?t work, the city is upgrading fixtures and water supply lines.

'EVERYBODY SHOULD HAVE GOOD, CLEAN WATER'

?We believe this is a city where everybody should have good clean water and it should start with city government,? Rybak said.

At Minneapolis City Hall, there are still six drinking fountains that are out of commission. All of the fixtures should be replaced by the end of the year.

Hey Dudes,

Ya don't have to live in the projects to feel like your living in The Wire.

And yes ya might be able to live with it... but why should you have to?

What we seek, and what is needed here is change.

This is a national problem.

What's needed are havens where the youth can go to stay out of trouble after school and on weekends.
