Re: Speeding Ticket And Going To Court
Home away from home
Home away from home

I got a ticket for going through a stop sign, I had stopped but I guess it wasn't long enough for a JCPD staked out at the corner. The ticket was $85 and 2 points, I thought the fine was a bit high. I went to JC traffic court where the the prosecutor offered to reduce the charges and no points if I gave them $400.00. I told my sister who is a lawyer about this and she was shocked they would offer this, which smells of extortion. I took the 2 points and paid the $85.00. The prosecutor offered this same deal to everyone who came to court.
I'm they will ask for alot more from you.

What I find fascinating whenever GrovePath posts one of these real-estate pieces from the Sunday NY Times is the criticism that's sure to follow of the buyer's choice of neighborhood or the price paid, etc. Maybe psychologists can shed light on this, but it seems to me as though people love to criticize these choices as a means to rationalize their own housing decisions. That suggests to me a certain level of insecurity about the the choice one has made in what arguably is life's biggest financial decision. In the end, finding fault with other people's real-estate choices is pointless, because each buyer has a different set of financial and personal circumstances. What's right for one person may be completely wrong for another. Or maybe all the criticism is plain and simple envy - that someone got a fantastic deal or can afford a more expensive place....

This may also be the reason people like to criticize neighborhoods in JC they don't live in, Newport and the new hi rise condos gets more than its share of bashing from people who prefer low rise structures. Everyone has their preference and lifestyle, glad to see we are not all the same.

Shouldn't others be warned?

There is free parking in the garage at MW, all you have to do is have the checkout clerk validate you garage ticket.

Go back to your dealership and buy the mirror, won't be any more than going to a mirror place and getting a custom cut mirror.

In the private sector, you want to put the "can do" people out front. But in the govt. sector, those people are kept in the background because they cause to much work to be done. I almost think that a govt. should be run as a "for profit" organization.

JC gov't is a "for profit" organization, almost everyone from the mayor on down are filling their pockets with whatever they can grab and don't forget all the people in office with multiple jobs and multiple paychecks/retirement funds.

ok that's the last time I harp on that.

Don't forget the nice feeling you get when you're in court and the prosecutor offers to forgive your $85 traffic ticket if you give them $400 dollars. This happened to me last Tuesday.
I told this to my sister who is a lawyer in Princeton, she was shocked.

Verizon DSL is available in most of the buildings if you have a line, you don't need a land line # to get it, while not as fast it is reliable and less expensive. If you are in the condos they are being wired for Fios now.

For as nice as it is to see JC real estate get coverage in the press, I sort of moan every time since I know there will be some trash talk here.

It's really disheartening to hear (well, read) the negativity around this issue all the time. Every time. Never fails.

These new people moving in are younger/better looking, richer, more successful in their careers at this time in their lives than the bashers ever were or ever will be. There's a lot of envy and jealousy involved, people love to bring others down to their level.

I may have seen this on another thread - if so, feel free to move this post to the right location...

But is there not something very illegal and unethical about first time violators getting a $110 boot and a $42 ticket? I parked out front of my home but as I've said before some weird complication with my leased vehicle shows the address as the leased address etc. and so I have not been able to change my vehicle registration address to prove my car is mine.

So I don't park for more than 2 hours in front of my house. Drove to Target, parked around the corner and of course, same zone - I walk out and see them putting the boot on.

I get the code and still have to DRIVE ALL THE WAY UP TO THE PARKING AUTHORITY ON CENTRAL AVE. to drop it off.

I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE EXPERIENCED A MORE DEFUNCT, STUPID, INEFFICIENT, INCOMPETENT SYSTEM IN MY LIFE. A FIRST ticket is $152.00????????

That is unbelievable. We are NOT criminals here - we are just trapped in a system that is complicated. Can't we, as citizens of JC argue this in some way?

The Parking Authority must have a ton of no show-patronage jobs to support, I wonder if there is any way to find out who is on the payroll.

Morton Williams opened today in Newport, its nice having a premium supermarket in the hood. Its like a small Wegmans with emphasis on easily prepared foods and premium products. Some of the premium products are Asian, it's nice to see more diversity in my food options. While it won't replace my trips to Shop Rite and Trader Joes & Target for basics it will take some of my business away from Whole Foods and Citarellas.

Have lets say 1 or 2 people on Brunswick and 9th, 1 or 2 at Brunswick and 8th (and so on), walk directly towards Marin Blvd. Any shopping carts we come across bring with us to BJ's. If we all do this together I am sure we would easily gather about 10 carts and drop them off at the store in Jersey. It would send a clear unified message to them that this issue is a sore point with the neighborhood.

Best possible results: BJ's will take notice of our concerns and address the issue more seriously.

Worst possible results: The carts may be off our streets for a few weeks at least.

Nice of you to perform this free service for BJs.

BJs had a truck in my neighborhood picking up the carts, they do this all the time or there would be no carts for their shoppers.

You'd have to tell the developers to stop giving "contributions" to JC officials, but then the developers would never get anything done in a timely fashion.

I am so happy all those other blank faces on the PATH train are thinking the same things I am. It gets me less down about living in an urban setting where often I feel very anonymous.

I once was on the train with friend and we went towards two seats together and a man from the other entrance came racing, head down, towards the seats to 'win' one. So I rudely said, "well, looks like he won" and my friend and I sat apart somewhere else (there was no loss of seats on the train). He looked up and I think my 'outing' him had him offer the seats. I look at him and I KNEW HIM! It was like driving in a car and fingering an obnoxious driver then realizing it was your bosses wife. AWKWARD.

I once was bustling through the turnstiles and there was a rather 'healthy', okay I'll say it, large woman going through the one next to me, evidently having trouble putting her card through. I have no idea what happened but I'm guessing she backed out of that turnstile to come to mine but I was already on my way. Then I hear her say "that bitch BUTTED IN FRONT OF ME AND hit me with her purse!". I turn around to look not realizing she was pointing at me. I'm like WHAT THE F*CK? She starts slewing profanities as she walks to get her card more money on it.

So I decide, forget this bitch. You lied. So I say to her "i'm sorry if my purse hit you in some way, i had absolutely no idea, it's a big purse and i'm very, very, sorry - it was completely unintentional". She was so shocked I spoke to her or apologized (even though I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about) she didn't know what to do with herself. I continue to say, "Look I'm sorry, I didn't know". And she's like, "back off bitch, whatever".

It's amazing that her evident fatness to the point she spilled over to my turnstile, her aggravation her card wouldn't go through and her frustration to have to get more money from her card was forwarded to someone who didn't do anything intentionally wrong. Little did she know when I saw her I thought, I should just let her through on my MTA card........nope!

Perhaps PATH was trying to charge her a double fare like the airlines do for "large" people

I was in Christ Hospital about 5 years ago in the emergency room, it was one of the worst experiences I've ever been through. I was only able to get attention from the doctors and nurses because I kept making a fuss, If I hadn't I would have been ignored like many of the other patients there, they were not busy at that time, only a few patients were in there. I decided that If I ever needed to go to a hospital on an emergency basis that would be the LAST place I would go.
