Trans-Atlantic voyage
Set out to prove prehistoric trips

According to Gorlitz, traces of tobacco and coca found in the tomb of Egypt's pharaoh Ramses II are evidence of long-distance trans-Atlantic commerce during the Stone Age, and cave drawings in Spain show that people living 14,000 years ago had an understanding of ocean currents.

"I wish them well, but for a proper replicative experiment in archaeology, the culture has to be consistent," he said in a telephone interview. "How can they replicate the past accurately by using evidence from thousands of years ago in Egypt and a boat similar to those built 800 years ago in South America? These are completely different periods."

I heard that in the interests of historical accuracy they are carrying a case of Marlboro Lites and two ounces of blow on board.

Talk about petty theives, this guy really hit bottom. What's the street value for a "hot" 99 cent store item? 25 cents? Is there a fence that specializes in stolen 99 cent store stuff? And dude, you're walking around with a big brown purse, unless you go the whole nine yards and wear the dress and makeup, the purse just might raise suspicion. And one more thing, even the 99 cent store guy ain't gonna be afraid of a guy carrying a purse.

The victim has been identified by the Medical Examiners office. I just got this info from a friend who works there. His name was Edward Norton. He lived in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn NY. His wife Trixie Norton reported him missing in 1962.

We did a thread like this a while ago, the list of celebrities was embarrassingly pathetic. But anyway, John Hammond Jr. used to/maybe still does live downtown. Jimmy Roselli (who?) lives in the Heights. Beetlejuice of the Howard Stern show lived in JC.

Jersey Journal -- March 14

T he smell came wafting through K Sherbetdjian's Whiton Street bedroom as softly and as unwanted as a burglar tip-toeing across the floor, its pungent odor ripping him out of his peaceful sleep.

Now that's some pullitzer class writin boy. And no byline? That first sentence grabs your attention by the lapels and shoves your face in the story "like a tarantula on a birthday cake", "like a fart in an elevator", "like the pimp on Easter morning", "like a puddle of puke on a PATH train seat", "like a Grove St. bum in a Brioni suit", "like a touch football game at Hamilton park", "like a, like a, like..... I can't think of any more likes. Can you? That's why I'm not pulling down the big bucks over at the JJ.

For all but the super rich, eating at either White Manna is a once in a lifetime luxury. Most of us can only afford to dine at one or the other only on a very special occasion, eg: 25th anniversary, and it would be a shame to pick the wrong one. If I were you I would spend a few months researching your decision before plunking down the money.

The whole story is a bummer but still, I hope I will have 8G's pocket change laying around when I'm 94. Actually I hope I get to be 94. The JJ always has a way of conjuring a totally bizarre scene in my mind when I read their articles. The old lady's line was a classic though, "I thought they would never leave". I suspect people have said that about me once or twice.

Re: Wireless Internet - Steven Fulop

Free wireless access in JC, hahahahahahahah. Not that it will ever happen but even if it did, we can look forward to even more people being mugged, run over or getting into car accidents because they are walking around or driving while listening to the ipod AND talking on the cell with one hand while typing on a handheld with the other. I doubt any wireless system will reach inside houses very well so this will be a free service for people who can afford a Blackberry or Palm or anyone dumb enough to go sit on a park bench with a $1500 laptop. And another thing, as far as this being an essential tool for children's education Bwahahahahahahahah. Dude, don't you know what kids use the internet for? No, not to research for their school essay. It's for My Space, AOL or Yahoo instant messageing, YouTube, porn, gaming, illegal music downloads and god only knows what else. And adults (I use the term loosely) are pretty much on the same level. Ya know, like squandering endless hours on sites like, well, sites like this one right here.

Most "neighborhood organizations" are 501 (c)3 non profits which under IRS regs could not do what you propose under IRS guidelines.

However, 501 (c)4 organizations "may" be able to do this as they are allowed to support specific candidates, etc. The only 501 (c)4 group in this forum is Civic JC's and they can be found at www.civicjc.org. so I suggest you contact them per your suggestion.

On the other hand, there's nothing keeping a group of concerned citizens from banding together and hiring a lawyer. An easier task, I believe, but more individual liability. I would check into the specifics.

Isn't this the job of the county or state prosecutor? Why would the citizens have to hire a lawyer if a law has been violated? Why not just file a complaint? I don't see how willful neglect of duty or violation of election laws would be a civil case.

On an unrelated note - I have been seeing a lot of these on here lately ( penchant for pension) These are not just typos or misspellings( I know super-furry knows the difference between the words), but a completely different word and meaning. Alb is good at this. It leads me to believe posters are distracted by their employers trivial chores and not giving full attention to their main mission and real purpose in life ie: posting on JCL. Forget the multitasking, focus on what's important, your job is secondary and if something goes wrong only a few people will know but mistakes made here are seen by hundreds and archived for eternity. Mistakes at work can always be blamed on someone else and there is always someone else to pick up your slack. Mistakes made on JCL are your's and your's alone.

What's so special about all these assistants. Perhaps if they found some not so special assistants they could pay them less. It's like the FBI. Have you noticed that all the agents are called "special agent"? No regular agents, all special agents. When everyone is special it kind of devalues the meaning of the word. So what do you get promoted to in the FBI? Maybe "really special agent" or "extra special agent"?
