I think it's just you. Whenever I take the PATH into the city during morning rush hours, it crawls so slow that walking may be faster.

What line are you using and what time is this? I take the Grove to 33rd 820-845 AM every day and have seen people lose their grip when the train zips around the turns too fast.

i'm sorry they died, but illegal searches are still illegal. if there's probable cause to stop someone (i.e. erratic driving, etc.), then stop them.

simply driving on a road is not probable cause to be stopped.

If you feel that strongly about it you can always refuse to stop and decline the search... I don't mind stopping and answering a few questions if it helps keep the streets safe.

you're missing the point. it's not about me or you, although you're free to answer their questions of course. i don't drive so this isn't an issue for me personally.

it's that the illegal searches are illegal. citizens are expected to follow the law, so why are the police not held to the same standard?

Me too. Stream of consciousness writing of the barely conscious is always a problem. As is the idea that anyone should be able to not only benefit from tremendous asset appreciation, but not pay tax on it to boot. And not all people who bought 25 years ago did so well, it's mostly the ones who bought downtown.

My wife had a great idea that the city should make what's essentially a reverse mortgage available to anyone who can't pay their fair taxes. You get to pay the current assessment till you sell, and then the city takes what you owe from the proceeds, plus a nice healthy interest of course. The city could then balance it's budget by selling off a bond based on these future proceeds. The only people who can object to this is the "have the cake and eat it" crowd.

I agree with this, because I don't find it fair to pay cash for taxes on FMV appreciation of a non-liquid asset that isn't realizable for cash unless you sell, anyway.

This kind of reminds me of working in Iraq in 2003. It's been a week - where's the miracle?

Cleaning up a mess is less fun and less politically gratifying than creating a mess. Let's not forget that our special mess accrued not just over a near-decade, but over generations. Most recently, politically inconvenient decisions were conveniently kicked down the road just past the '13 election. Is the idea that we'll right the ship for free and all get a check in the process?

I'm willing to invest time, as well as to pay as needed, to put JC on a track to excellence.

If you're going to compare this to Iraq... well, you're gonna make me nervous.

Enlighten us Fletch, why is Donnelly not suitable for this role? Do you think he is incompetent in terms of large project management? What if he ends up managing these huge projects extremely well?

We all know you are posturing for your next attempt at office. Forget Ward E, I think you should run for Mayor in 2017!

How is he suitable and qualified for this role? Better yet, why is this role needed in the first place? Fulop chose him, so the burden of proof is on him.

Even if Fletch is a hater, it doesn't automatically prove that Donnelly is the person for this role or that this role should exist.

What I find most disheartening is the dismissive nature of responses to Fletch. I didn?t vote for Fletch, and I did vote for Fulop, but I appreciate the point he has raised. Forgive this generalization, but the tone on this site has been blindly anti-Healy and pro-Fulop with little critical thought or analysis (I always thought Healy cared deeply for the city, but was too entrenched with friends and politicians he felt indebted to, which could never have done anything to uplift this poor place). There were plenty of things wrong with the Healy administration, which is why we voted him out. But it?s crazy to me that if you even suggest we scrutinize the decisions Fulop is making, you?re accused of having ?sour grapes,? told that the people being chosen are more qualified than anyone under Healy was, will do a better job, etc (as a blanket response). I know a lot of people whom had ranted and raved about Healy appointing friends and cronies, who now, after having campaigned for Fulop, are the beneficiaries of the positions they were dismayed at others holding. Perhaps these people, and their self-interest, will produce better results, but I?m concerned it will be business as usual. I guess after having voted for Obama and feeling duped, I have my guard up. I worry that like Obama, Fulop may just be a more polished version of the same variety of bad politics.

THIS THIS THIS!

I thought Fulop was a better option than Healy too, but it's in our best interest to have healthy skepticism of our politicians' actions - especially when they appear sketchy.

If Fulop wants to eliminate the confusion around this appointment, he can give further details on why Donnelly is the BEST person for this job.

Jersey City residents say community group is harassing them for speaking out to press

http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/20 ... er_is_harassing_them.html

Two residents of a Downtown Jersey City apartment building owned by Puerto Rican community group PACO say the group is harassing them because they spoke out last year when the building was without power for more than three weeks.

PACO, headed by Rub?n A. Alicea and formerly led by Freeholder Eliu Rivera, is trying to evict Pat Byrne, who has lived on the fourth floor at 52 Bright St. for seven years, and has locked 23-year tenant Teresa Lugo out of a backyard garden she?s used without incident for years, according to Lugo.

Looking for luxury rental apartment downtown

Hi all,

I'm looking for a luxury apartment for a relocating co-worker (coming from another country). Here's his requirements:

- Rental budget up to $3,000 / mo
- 900+ sq ft
- Walkable to Newport or Grove St. PATH
- Close to parks a plus

He has a wife but no kids. No car.

Thank you!

Yes it is Able on Bay St. not Avel . After looking at the video again in my below link and pulling Able up on Google it is the same place. Disgusting. Not only how they ripped off the women but how they charge $85 to change a freakin wiper fuse.

Post-Sandy, the Path was an absolute joke. But outside of that month or so, which was very frustrating, I can count on one hand the number of times I have been really, really screwed over the past 10 years. Compared to other systems, that's pretty good.

Major cities like Boston and DC, among many others, have subway systems that stop running at like 1am. How many 24/7 systems even exist in the US? It's really nice to have 24 hour service, and that shouldn't be taken for granted.

I suspect that people like Corybraiterman and Pathh8tr do a lot of complaining in their lives. Of course everybody is entitled to an opinion and everybody has the right to complain, but after a while the negativity and cynical attitude is just plain annoying.

You're comparing PATH to other systems but why not compare it to itself?

How are we not getting screwed over when fares are increasing and yet service is decreasing?

Government isn't super responsive because it doesn't have to be, it's a monopoly. If there was actual competition, you'd see customer service ramp up real quick.
