Re: Brakes on Car
Home away from home
Home away from home

Pads.

Update: I took it to my guy in Union Twp. Just wasn't sure if he would be available. His guys looked at the brakes and said another 6 months and will need to be replaced. Rotors are good, so just another example of dealership squeezing money.

I would say half the 38,000 miles are city, the other half highway miles from road trips, to visit parents, etc.

Who is the best most reliable not going to scam you business to have a second opinion on my car brakes. Dealership said I should replace brakes in the next couple of weeks. Car is 4.5 years old, 38,000 miles on it.

Motor Oil Flush
Home away from home
Home away from home

Today I visited a JC establishment that focus on changing oil, transmission treatments, etc. Usually, I go to my dealer who changes my oil, etc. for free. But I can only do this twice a year. So once or twice a year I go somewhere and pay for my oil to be changed. I last changed it 4 months ago, a little over 3,000 miles. Usually I am in every 3 months. Well, the guy who changed the oil recommended I perform a 'motor oil flush' costing 115 dollars. I said next time.

Question, my car is a Nissan 2011 Rogue with 35,000 miles. Do I need this? Any professional mechanics or car experts out there. I don't see this in my Nissan Maintenance manual?flush..etc.

Thx everyone

Mr. McGreevey,

Please provide evidence that Mr. McKnight has entered into a payment plan to pay down restitution, I beg you. For transparency sakes. Steve, you have to nip this now, you cannot have this. It cannot be tolerated. This gentlemen stole, was found guilty, and refuses to pay. It's disgusting.

Who is Kristina Vlahovic? Does not appear we have facts involved, just guessing. Sounds like whining to me, before you do anything for your business, ensure that all permits are in place. Also, "flourishing" . . . Prato where were you five or ten years ago, just joined the bandwagon...I love the place, but this change.org thing is ridiculous to use for this purpose.

I poked my head in yesterday and asked ?in about 2 weeks if some kind of final permit goes through? I forgot what was the official name of this document. Place looks good, menu looks good? will try it out AFTER they work out all the logistics. I find that showing up the first two weeks to a new restaurant is not the best idea.

Verizon installed a huge off white Fios box in the living room (not router, not black cable box).

It is big and ugly. I asked them to remove it now that I canceled. The Verizon customer service person said I can't and that it is now considered a utility and part of the building, like a meter? ... I don't believe it and i hate that thing screwed into the electrical outlet.

What to pay your Tax Preparer / Adviser
Home away from home
Home away from home

I was quoted by a friend who has a tax preparer that accepts 160 dollars for personal taxes. I called a reputable BBB accredited highly rated tax preparer (located in JC) who quoted me 400 to 450 dollars.

Our taxes involve 1040, Schedule B, C, D, 8829 and 8849 as well as NJ and NY filings. I have done all the work and completed all the forms, but I owe more than I expected and maybe I messed up somewhere.

What should I pay.

I just got off the phone with Verizon and I am so happy I canceled because they are ruthless. The charged 40 dollar early cancelation fee (24 mo contract until July 2015). Even though I was a customer for double digit years. Ruthless. But that is not the topic I need advice on.

Verizon installed a huge off white Fios box in the living room. It is big and ugly. I asked them to remove it now that I canceled. The Verizon customer service person said I can't and that it is now considered a utility and part of the building, like a meter?

Is this true, this sounds like horse manure ?

Anyone ???

Re: Smoke Damage to Rental Apartment
Home away from home
Home away from home

The buildings insurance will only clean the walls and floors, not your personal belongings. The building has lined up a restoration company. The restoration company offered to clean my personal belongings. My insurance company assigned Master Services to assess the smoke damage and clean my personal belongings. I called Master Services. The said someone will call me. They have not. My friend is a fire fighter. He has a friend that owns a company that does restoration. So I will meet tomorrow morning before the buildings insurance adjuster arrives.

Anyone with experience with this?

The building is owned by an individual in Queens who set up an LLC and hired a property management company to run all 8 of the apartments.

Keep the advise coming, thanks Scrappe for the post.

Smoke Damage to Rental Apartment
Home away from home
Home away from home

I have renters insurance. There was a fire in the apartment below me on Saturday late morning. The smoke got into my apartment and caused smoke damage. Took photos of everything, including the apartment below.

I called my renters insurance company immediately after the fire and they gave me a claim number and an agent's phone number. I called the agent Saturday and Sunday leaving a voice message.

Anyone been through this. There were adjusters lining up handing out business cards?..A restoration company who put in air scrubbing machines did a sales pitch to me today saying they'll clean everything in my apartment and then bill the insurance company?

Please advise !! Thanks everyone.

Adonis

That is the exact situation we are in. She does not contribute to any retirement plan / deducted any amount for health or travel expenses... so I think the difference between the lower NY State wage and the higher NJ State wage is just that, as I have a 401k where money is sent pre-tax. I will calculate tonight.

Wow, I have always received NJ W2.... for me...

The difference is FED Line 16 State Wage is $0 . . NJ W2 has a larger $$$ than NY W2 . . .

Line 17 for NJ W2 is $0 whereas FED and NY W2 has the same $$$ amount.

Otherwise wages and Line 2 are same for all three W2's !
