Re: McCafe is coming to Grove Square

I'm confused.... don't they already have a McCafe in the McDonalds there? They have those coffee machines in the corner and make all of those drinks.

Are we saying it's gonna be a separate store front? That would make no sense being they already have McCafe stuff there now, plus there is a Dunkin Donuts and a Starbucks there.

Here is a copy: All three #PATH escalators at Exchange Place are currently out of service through tomorrow morning, 1/8/13. Please use stairs or elevators.

It always amazes me when PATH closes an escalator, but doesn't let anyone use it as a staircase. Its not an elevator. It will still work as a stairwell.

Until it starts running backwards for no reason...

Yes, they should provide bread and butter for free as does any other Italian restaurant does while waiting for your meal.

Was does Two Boots charge for a slice? Like 50 bucks right?

I was referring to just the bread and butter at the table at Razza that they charge $4 for. Haven't been to Two Boots yet...

I only really like thin crust, and the only real option for that is Buon Appeitito. Stella's and Helen's are both pretty horrendous in my opinion.

Wondering if anyone else has suggestions as I'm looking to leave a car for a week as well. It doesn't even need to be in downtown, or Jersey City for that matter -- anywhere within 10 miles or so would be good.

Re: Traffic Light Timing

Wothless as in inhibits traffic flow greatly causing traffic jams at Columbus and Marin while it is very rare for cars (or people to be crossing) to be coming down Morgan to the point a traffic light is needed.

There is a crosswalk with a light just a half block away at Columbus and Marin.

And yes, I've live in JC a long time, so I have crossed Marin many of times.

Marin has been a disaster, especially at the Columbus intersection mostly due to that worthless light at intersection of Marin and Morgan St.

Did I just enter a time warp or something?

Are we talking about Grove Pointe? Has this not been completed for many years? I viewed several units like 3 or 4 years ago and hundreds of people have been living there for years.

I'm certain that the vast majority will read this thread and stop.

Thanks.

Sometimes riding on the sidewalk is unavoidable due to road conditions / construction / etc...

Not true.. I actually watched that garbage.

There was definitely JC filming in the first show as they were "house hunting" to find a new place to move in together and sign a lease (didn't know you could sign a 4 week lease). They hung out on the stoop of a place on Wayne St., and looked at some places in Greenville before deciding that the place that the production company secured months in advance on Mercer St. was for them.

Good ride. My only complaints were the two really long delays/waits were a little much. Each one seemed to be about 1/2 hour and they were only separated by about 1.5 miles. I'm not sure if that was planned or if they had to wait for the law enforcement to block off JFK.

Re: EZ PASS issued by NY or NJ
Home away from home
Home away from home

Depends on which agency issued your EZ-Pass, if it's NYS Thruway, then there is no fees, so if you switch to NJ (would be issued by Port Authority), you'll start getting charged $1 a month for the privilege of having EZ-Pass.

If your current pass is issued by MTA, then you are already paying that fee, I think.

--on edit: MTA doesn't charge either. So if you switch your account to NJ, you'll get charged $1 a month, which you're likely not being charged now.

Great -- looks like the bike lanes go straight through the double parking area.

Any chance they'll actually enforce no double parking now?

That's a little crazy. How are they supposed to know if someone exits at Columbus? It's after the toll plaza. They would need to build a booth at the exit.

Re: Failure to stop at a stop sign! help!

It'll show up as a 0 point violation. It should have no affect on your premium. The chances for you to not have it show at all on your record are slim to none.

In fact if you tried to fight it via trial, it is possible the officer can issue you a speeding ticket (I've had that happen to me once).

Your best bet is to take the 0 point deal from the DA.

Re: Failure to stop at a stop sign! help!

Don't bother getting a lawyer, waste of money.

You can go to court during your appointed time, you will meet with the DA and he will give you an offer. It will probably be about $400 - $450 for driving in an unsafe manner (I think that's what the name of it is) and will be no points against your insurance.

If you want no points, you're not gonna get off for less then $400 - $450.

Most insurance companies will give you a freebie, so 2 points may not affect your insurance rates. If you think you can live with the 2 points, then the fee will be much less then the $400 - $450, but your insurance may or may not go up. However, being you've been in an accident, you probably will not get the freebie.

All that said, how in the world can there be experienced drivers that think a "rolling stop" is an acceptable stop? Isn't that like Drivers 101?

Re: Let's get City Hall to change the daily street "cleaning" sched
Home away from home
Home away from home

My wife and I both own cars, and neither of us use them to commute to work, so they basically just sit out there...

..that said, I should be in favor of your idea

..However, I'm not. It's probably a good thing that people such as I need to move their car every day, otherwise they would just sit there for days.

I 100% agree that street cleaning is a scam, and those cleaners just move the garbage from the side to the middle, but it is good for the purpose of ticketing those that are too lazy or stupid to move their cars when they are supposed to.

It also screws those who just use the area to park and to commute to work via PATH. I love it when I see non-permit cars or out of state plate cars with tickets on them.

Unless they were to actually enforce the permit parking, and extend the hours of permit parking to at least 7 or 8pm, this is a decent control to prevent people from leaving their cars on our street and taking up spots in the early hours of the morning.

$1800 a lot for rent? seriously?

Have you looked at what it costs to either rent or to buy in downtown?

That's a decent deal for a 1BR with yard in VVP. It is certainly not cheaper to buy a house, unless you want to live in JSQ or Heights.

I've lived in VV area for 7 years. I've been looking to move, but will only stay in the VV or PH area, all though HP area is quite a bit cheaper.

For me, having the PATH within a 5 minute walk means everything. In addition, you are close to the beer garden, the shops on Grove & Newark, and the Duane Reade is a great thing to have near you.

VV is technically considered everything south of ccb (i think), west of grove, east of grand -- not sure what the west boundary is.

You probably should make sure your car is on the road legally -- not too hard to pay the registration being it comes months before it's due.
