hhhhmmmmm I think he is onto something. I am not too sure how tight you are for money, but just getting it and installing yourself would would certainly work.

To avoid an argument, buy your own fan.
I have a 1950's industrial upright fan - it works great in my warehouse conversion. It has a lot of brass and chrome which makes for a good conversation piece. If interested - search via ebay, antique stores and auction houses.

the best way about doing so would be to find out the price for the fan itself. Figure out where you would want it as long as it is not in the way or cause any other problems. If you are handy then you can install yourself if not find out from a handy man about how much to install a fan in place of an already exsisting light assembly. Then the day before you send in the rent check call him/her and say that with the humid weather your place has been getting very stuffy or out right hot and that you think the "such and such light" would be a perfect spot for a fan. Your friend recently had one installed for around "what ever you have come up with". Then ask him/her if they would perfer to have it installed or would they perfer you to do so and compensate through a discounted rent equal to the amount of the fan and install.
