Real shame, Stanley's & Havermeyers were just a thing of the past to many of us......

The cooked cod never tasted the same since the sale and the portion has changed as well.

This place is disgusting now. It is a big shame because the old owners took such good care of the place and now everything just looks and smells old. I hear they are closing too.

Wait, is it closing or you're just unhappy with it's current atmosphere? They still make great sandwiches, better than Monmouth St deli IMO. If booze pays the bills and keeps them open, I got no problem with that. Some years back a Korean kid working in his parent's NYC convenience store explained to me that beer was what allowed them to stay open 24 hrs, in response to my wondering why we have so few 24 hr stores.

The new owners ran the place into the ground fast. Now it's just a glorified liquor store. From what I've heard and can see, they seem to have cash flow problems which limits store inventory. If they can't turn a profit selling booze and cigs, they won't be around much longer.

Probably one of the only throwbacks on Central Ave that's
still around and it was your classic deli that made great egg sandwiches and lunch hot plates with the best rice pudding in town.

That's really awful. I loved this place. What happened? Jesus, I've only been around JC since '98 but wow how things have really changed.
