Last winter's ice and scrambling for salt during the shortages left my sidewalk and stoop in pretty bad shape. I hired a contractor to repair the cracks, replace missing concrete, paint and waterproof the stoop but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. He told me not to use rock salt. Upon more research, it appears that the best product to use is *calcium* chloride but most commercial ice melts seem to have *magnesium* chloride as well which I think damages concrete. Does anyone have info on this and perhaps a recommendation of a brand and/or source for ice melt? I'd like to stock up on whatever is safest and not be left scrambling during a storm.
