What a load of stupidity - I placed a dash cam in my car for a few years now - Cops should have had these over 15 years ago like the rest of many States. We sure are ass-backwards in NJ

Seems like this is only happening because the cops framed a politician. When an average person's rights get trampled on, no one gives a shit.

But I guess this is progress.

NJ Senate panel OKs bill putting video cameras in cop cars

A bill in the state Legislature that would equip all new police cars in the state with video cameras cleared a procedural hurdle today.

The bill, A-2280, is co-sponsored by Assemblyman Charles Mainor, D-Jersey City, a retired police detective, and Assemblyman Paul Moriarty, D-Turnersville, and came after Moriarty's July 2012 drunk driving arrest in Washington Township.

The charges against Moriarty were dismissed after video from the arresting officer's car showed Moriarty passing sobriety tests. The officer was later indicted on 14 criminal counts accusing him of falsely arresting the assemblyman
