Of course, as of 8:30 this morning the bridge was wide open, with no signs of a construction crew to be seen . . .

A lot of money has been put into the Wittpenn over the past 15 years just to keep it operational whilst waiting for the new bridge / interchange to be built.

That bridge is long past its useful lifespan.

Imagine how decrepit that bridge must be for them to spend money on repairs when it is about to be torn down.

The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced today upcoming roadway closures on the Route 7 Wittpenn Bridge over the Hackensack River in Jersey City and Kearny.

The NJDOT will close the bridge to traffic beginning tomorrow at 6 a.m. until around 8 p.m. Sunday while it performs structural repairs to ensure the existing Wittpenn Bridge remains in service while a new replacement bridge is built.

The NJDOT also will implement full closures of the Wittpenn Bridge Friday, March 28 from 10:30 p.m. until about 5:30 a.m. Monday, March 31.

The same closures will be in effect Friday, April 4 to Monday, April 7.

Eastbound traffic on Route 7 will take Fish House Road to Pennsylvania Avenue and then turn onto Central Avenue before continuing to Route 1&9 Truck northbound and returning to Route 7.

Westbound traffic on Route 7 will take to Route 1&9 Truck southbound to Central Avenue and then continue to Pennsylvania Avenue to Fish House Road before returning to Route 7.
