I would ignore the advice given about glue and nail guns, remove the fabric on the chair or sofa but save it. Then use appropriate cord to retie the springs. You might have to replace the web if the chair has web. Do not use hot glue or nail guns because you cannot re-position the fabric. Use tac size 6 and size 3, you can buy these at an upholstery place. You will probably need to buy webbing, and cotton. This can also be purchased at an upholstery place. Always start at the center and work towards to edge when nailing fabric. I suggest you use a fabric that has no prints the first time. My suggestion is to follow the way the chair is made when you restore it. In fact take pictures when removing the fabric. The only additional thing you might need is a curve needle and stong thread when you hand sew. Applying the back fabric to the trim does require a curve needle. They are inexpensive and you probably buy them at a fabric store. Use a large curve needle not the small one. Use the size 6 tac for applying web to the furniture and use size 3 tac for applying the fabric to the chair or sofa.

Honestly you can do a lot with a staple gun and a hot glue gun -- look at some DIY blogs and youtubes.

Check the Bethune schedule, they are offering how to make drapery without a sewing machine with instructor Carlos Bermuda. He was also talking about upholstery classes at the center.

Hudson County High School use to teach those skills years ago, but it became high tech and those programs were dropped. I actually took several classes there.

I wanted to re-upholster my recliner. Their rates were 330 for labor PLUS fabric that started at 200. That's more than a new recliner. So I thought why not take a class and upholster my own furniture.

Does anyone know of a class nearby? Have you take a course and have any information to share?
