so how did three men have possession of one gun? were they all holding onto the grip with their hands on top of each other like some boys & girls club logo? did one person hold the gun in a shooting grip and the other two were just touching it? did they let go of it when they had to walk, in which case, who was the one person who had possession?

perhaps they still held onto it at all times while walking! like little kids in a class holding onto the group leash as they walk across the street to the park.

Without having been there or even reading the reports I can surmise that all three were charged with possession of the gun because it was located in the passenger compartment of the car and all three had equal access to it. Constructive possession. It will hold up in court.

So then where would the criminals live if we bulldoze thier homes? Would they then stop being criminals? Or did you mean to bulldoze them along with the homes?

Perhaps special camps could be set up to hold the inhabitants. Thank god we have intellectuals like you around.

Anthony J. Machcinski/The Jersey Journal

A high-ranking Jersey City police official helped fellow officers nab three men following a shooting last night on Dwight Street, police reports state.

Police units responded to Dwight Street near Van Cleef Street on a report of shots fired at 8:57 p.m. reports state.

A witness told police that a group had formed in the courtyard of School 15 when two men got into an argument and eventually one man slapped the other man in the face, reports said.

One person in the group had a gun and fired one shot, the witness told police. The gunman and two other men then jumped into a Hyundai, Sonata and fled the scene, the witness said, according to police reports.

Deputy Police Chief Robert Cowan and several backup patrol officers responded to the area to search for the vehicle, reports said.

Cowan spotted the car traveling northbound on Bergen Avenue from Dwight Street and coordinated a traffic stop involving several other units, reports said.

The driver, Wayne Williams, 29, of Orange and two others, Anthony Hughes, 29, of Newark and Richard Gadson, 30, of East Orange, were all arrested, reports said.

Inside the car, police recovered a Super Black Hawk revolver with five live rounds and one spent round, police said.

All three are charged with possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and possession of prohibitive weapons, police said.

Williams was additionally charged with resisting arrest, police said. All three were taken to the Hudson County jail in Kearny following the incident, police said.
