View Larger Map Jersey City police say three teens attempted carjacking and opened fire Saturday, December 03, 2011, 3:00 AM By Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal Two Jersey City teens and a Union City teen have been charged with attempting to carjack a vehicle in Jersey City yesterday and then opening fire when the driver sped away, officials said. Resized Image LEROY BORDERS, left, and Roderick Marcello Spraus appear at Central Judicial Processing Court in Jersey City yesterday. Roderick Marcello Spraus, 19, of 13th Street in Union City; Leroy Borders, 18, of Dales Avenue; and a 17-year-old boy from Concord Street in Jersey City are charged in the incident on Spruce Street that happened around 12:35 a.m., reports said. Bail on Spraus and Borders was set at $175,000 cash or bond when they made their first appearance on the charge in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City yesterday. They are charged with carjacking, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and weapons offenses, reports said. The 35-year-old Brooklyn victim flagged down police at Kennedy Boulevard and Rt. 139, said he?d been carjacked and provided a description leading to a search by numerous police units, reports said. Three males fitting the description were spotted running at St. Paul?s and Tonnelle avenues and were arrested, reports said. Borders was carrying a partially loaded semiautomatic handgun, reports said, adding that spent shells were found at the scene. The victim said he was driving on Spruce when he was stopped by a man standing in the road, reports said, adding he was then approached by three males and one of them tried to pull him out of the vehicle. He said he hit the gas and heard several gunshots and saw muzzle flashes through his rearview mirror, officials said. The two adult suspects face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy commended the police officers who made the arrests in this carjacking and in an attempted carjacking in Greenville yesterday. Police ?did an outstanding job in tracking them down and arresting them,? Healy said, adding: ?It makes the city a safer place to live and work in.?
