Ha! Well, thanks for the bitter, condescending and useful thoughts. My next question would have been if there were any great places tucked away nearby, so I do appreciate the recommendation.

I agree. Depending on the tailor, they might do it for free, but you should not expect it. DeCarlos Bespoke on Monmouth, they will measure you however you want. Highly recommended.

Why not go in or call the tailor and ask if the offer a measurement service? I think it is low class of you to expect this service for free. Why shouldn't a tailor charge for a service they provide you? They gotta get paid too. Do you work for free?

I was wondering, is it bad form to go to a tailor just to get your measurements and not get a suit from them?

Is that common practice/expected (free), or is it a service that a tailor will charge for?
