Jersey City police say two Journal Square Improvement District workers use work tool during fight on street
Saturday, December 04, 2010
Two Special Improvement District workers were hospitalized yesterday morning for stab wounds after an argument escalated to a street fight, Jersey City police Lt. Edgar Martinez said.
A scraper, a work tool with a long razor's edge, was used in the fight at Bergen Avenue and Academy Street, Martinez said.
When police arrived at 11:23 a.m. they found Herminio Rosario, 44, of Academy Street, sitting on a corner bleeding from lacerations to his cheek, chest and leg, Martinez said.
The other man, John Pridgen, 44, of East Orange, walked to a doctor's office a block away on Bergen Avenue to be treated for head lacerations, reports said.
Both were charged with aggravated assault, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
During the dispute, Rosario punched Pridgen in the face, reports said, adding that Pridgen responded by slashing Rosario with a scraper. Rosario managed to take the scraper away and began to hit Pridgen in the head with it, reports said.
Both men, who work for the Journal Square SID, were treated at Jersey City Medical Center.
