I havent gotten any quotes...I acutally havent been able to locate anyone who can do the project. The entire floor isnt sagging, just certain sections. The floor is in on condo and the building is pre-war. I am not sure if the floor just settled strangely or whether there are structural defects.

Weren't you tempted to jack the center from the basement?
I would in my house, but one whole wall looks to be lower than the other instead of just the center beam.

The big question will be where are the entrance doorways and how bad is the sag. This was out of the question in my building where there's 2" sag from outside wall to center where the hallway doors are. You'd have to step up into the apartments if they sistered the joists with leveled 2x's. I doubt you'd be allowed to cut the joists down at the high side of the slope, but it can't hurt to ask.
Chief: By the time you pay a contractor extra for the labor to remove the boards intact, and then have to have the whole thing sanded out and refinished anyway, I doubt you save much money.

I too would be interested in this. What kind of numbers are you getting in terms of cost? Do you plan on keeping the existing hard wood floors?

Hi, I am looking for a contractor who can tear up the wood floor in my apartment and replace the subfloor (it isnt level). Does anyone have a good recommendation for a contractor in the JC area who would be able to do the project? Project is on the smaller size (size of floor area is about 500sqft). Thanks
