2 armed, masked men rob social club patrons of $3k

Monday, May 18, 2009

Two masked men, one of them brandishing a shotgun, robbed seven patrons of more than $3,000 early Saturday morning at a social club on Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City, reports said.

Called to 260 Martin Luther King Drive at 3:15 a.m., police were told the masked robbers entered the club through an unlocked door, reports said.

One man held a shotgun, while the other pointed a semi-automatic handgun, reports said.

The victims said they were ordered to lie on the floor, reports said. A 46-year-old victim reported having $700 cash and a cell phone taken, while a 60-year-old victim said he had $1,600 cash and his cell phone stolen, reports said.

Five other persons, who ranged from 27 to 46 years old, said the robbers took $540 cash and cell phones from them, reports said.

One would-be victim, a 48-year-old city resident, avoided losing her purse by lying on top of it, reports said.
