I had a chance to see Guy on multiple occasions this weekend. Say what you want, he is running hard.
Guy's main point of contention is that he will have a better relationship with the administration and be able to deliver the council's votes. Fair point. At a meeting of Gulls Cove residents, I and others raised the main issue that concerns us. With absolutely no consultation with the residents of GC or Liberty Harbor, the city transformed Grand Street from a two lane street to a four lane street. This isolates the neighborhood, particularly the Grand Street retail, and is a clear safety hazard. The newly formed Liberty Harbor Neighborhood Association met with traffic director Joao D'Souza to raise its objections, but we have had no follow up from the city. So we have asked Guy to intervene on our behalf. As a Planning Aide for the city, he should at least have some indirect influence now, even if he has not assumed office. This is his audition. Can he get the city to change its course, or at the very least, open an honest dialogue with the neighborhood residents? The clock is ticking for Guy.
