Just a thought - maybe they ought to call it an anti violence youth program instead. An anti youth violence program sounds a tad horriffic. I'd re-check the resumes of those 7 applications. They might be signing up for the wrong reasons.

Cops seeking youth volunteers

Jersey City police are renewing a call for volunteers to participate in Operation CeaseFire, an anti youth violence program, officials said. A first push for volunteers garnered only seven applicants, they said.

"In order for CeaseFire to work and be a true partnership with the community, we are interested in getting more applicants," Police Chief Tom Comey said last week.

"After advertising, putting it on our Internet site, and passing out applications at numerous block association and community meetings, we only have seven applicants and we would like to broaden our applicant base," he said.

Operation CeaseFire is aimed at combating youth violence, especially gun violence, through a partnership between law enforcement and prosecutors, working with community-based organizations, community outreach workers and residents.

Volunteers also canvass streets, bars, parks, clinics, public housing complexes in target areas to disseminate "Stop The Next Shooting" materials, and serve as catalysts for change by sending the message that the community will no longer tolerate violence, police said.
