There are 2 types of neighborhood parking permits. Zoned parking, and resident parking. Zoned parking allows you to park anywhere with a $15 zone sticker in the zone of many blocks you are assigned others can only park for up to 2 hours. Resident parking (green sign) is only for those that pay a large fee with a special "resident" sticker for an assigned block to park on all others can not park there at all. You better know which sticker you have and where you parked, making sure both sticker and parking spot coinside.

I had the same problem about a year ago. I had to go sit in court for about an hour, and when my case was called, it was dismissed in about 15 seconds. Unless things have changed, you'll have to go to court.

Resident parking (ticket)

I got a parking ticket on Thursday for "parking without a valid permit" - my permit was clearly posted on my back left window. Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, how do I avoid a day in court? When I called to complain they just said they would mail me a court date. What a hassle. Any advice would be appreciated. Oh, and I was parked in my zone.
