Bat attack in Jersey City Heights leaves man critical
by Michaelangelo Conte/The Jersey Journal Friday September 26, 2008, 6:59 PM A Jersey City man was beaten with a bat in the Heights last night and left in critical condition, police said Following the 5:46 p.m. incident, at Booraem Avenue near Nesbitt Street, police arrested Daniel Perez, 28, of Booraem Avenue, and charged him with aggravated assault, reports said. Shana Davis, 21, of Booraem Avenue, and Barbara Davis, 21, of Duncan Avenue, were also arrested and charged with obstructing and disorderly conduct, reports said. When police arrived at the scene they found the 36-year-old neighbor of Shana Davis and Perez lying on the ground with blood coming from the back of his head, reports said. Shana Davis said a van stopped and two men and a woman got out and she began fighting with the woman while the victim began fighting with one of the men, reports said. She said the other man went back to the van, got a baseball bat and struck the victim with it, reports said. But Shana Davis, who was sitting next to the victim, and Barbara Davis, both refused to move away from the crime scene, reports said. When officers tried to escort them away they began flailing their arms aggressively and both were arrested, reports said. Later Daniel Perez walked into the North District Police Station and was arrested after telling officers he'd hit a man on the head with a bat on Booraem, reports said. Jersey City spokesman Stan H. Eason said the victim was in critical condition and when taken to the Jersey City Medical Center.
