I ate there last year. The food was mediocre at best. The service wasn't good. Could have been an off day, but it's not a convenient location either, and I haven't been back.
Btw, my take on Al's is that it offers probably the best food of any diner in JC. I can get a good variety of very good tasting meals for a decent price. The challenge is getting in and out without a hitch. Inside it's fine, but there are some socially uncooperative jerks who hang around outside. One complaint: There is NO DINER in Jersey City that I know of that actually has real maple syrup. What's up with that? Charge me fifty cents extra, but please give me some maple syrup with my pancakes/waffles/etc.

The food is comparable to Al's and Coachhouse. Their diners, I don't see how they can differentiate much in terms of food. I have always been treated well at The Jersey City Diner (Colonette) I disagree about the service comment above.
I went there shortly after they reopened and the owner was very nice and proud of the changes, he even offered to show me all the upgrades in the kitchen, which I happily surveyed.

This is the new name for the newly renovated former Colonette Diner on Route 440, in front of the Pathmark and K-Mart. The 50s inspired chrome exterior looks a bit too fake, but I suppose it's an improvement. Has anyone eaten there since the renovation and name change? I always considered this one of the better diners in JC, although Al's on Communipaw has been our top choice the last few years.
