Very strange. They must have been standing right at the edge of the platform, possibly leaning over, and completely oblivious to the train. Usually the conductor will hit the bell a few times when they see this.

Light rail back on schedule after 2 people walk into side of train in downtown Jersey City: NJT
By Tom Shortell/The Jersey Journal
May 27, 2010, 6:39PM

The Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system is back on schedule after two people walked into the side of a train pulling into the Essex Street station in downtown Jersey City this evening, an NJ Transit spokesman said.

It had earlier been reported that a woman was struck by the train but NJT spokesman Dan Stessel now says it was two people who were injured.

The woman and man, both of whom are estimated to be in their 50s, were on the station platform shortly after 5 p.m. and turned sharply to their left, hitting the side of the train, Stessel said.

The woman suffered head injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening and was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, he said.

The man suffered bruises and refused medical attention, Stessel said.

Systemwide delays of 10 to 15 minutes resulted, but the trains have returned to their normal schedule, he said.

- Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

The northbound train was going less than 10 miles an hour, probably closer to 5 mph when it hit the woman, Stessel said.

The woman suffered head injuries, although Stessel could not yet say how serious the injuries are. She was taken by ambulance to the Jersey City Medical Center.

Riders can expect 10- to 15-minute systemwide delays until about 6 p.m., Stessel said.

Sorry, I meant Grand Street, not Montgomery.

Less than thirty minutes ago, saw about 6 police cars, a fire truck, an emergency police truck head down on Montgomery. A bit later an ambulance followed. After that a helicopter hovering around Paulus Hook. Anyone know what is going on?
