It amazes me how timely the comedy was, despite the fact it was almost 33 years ago.

I remember watching the show when it first aired. My parents had gone to sleep so I snuck a peek. I was 8 so it blew my little mind away. I couldn't BELIEVE they were broadcasting it! It was so "racy" to my little eyes.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'm watching it right now. What a great tribute. A classic, indeed!

A prophet and a great comedian. He did this great sketch where he took the ten commandments and rationalized them into a single phrase.

Supported by his caveat of "Thou shalt keep thy religion to thy self" A Classic!

Gosh he was great - I'll miss him! So so intelligent - his observations on most things have always mirrored my own!

George will be missed. I loved his command of language and how it could be made into comedy. Several years ago I was a member of a trivial persuit game in a local bar and our team won because I knew the 7 words you cannot say on television. And our team was the only one that got it right.

He gave me laughter and food for thought. I will miss him.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Carlin, briefly, at a Comic Relief event about a dozen or so years ago. He was a real class act, extremely gracious to the crew and even to the star-struck PA who inadvertently interrupted his rehearsal in a rush to say hello.

I suppose it's too late to apologize for that.

Sigh. A damn fine fella.

man, this guy was great.

I had the pleasure of seeing him one time in Vegas (maybe 4 years ago), but was surprised at his act. Reason being, he used a notebook. I don't know if it was because he was getting older, he had a bad day, was hungover from the night before, but he had a book of notes he had to continually refer to in order to continue with his act. Strange part was, it wasn't like it was a new act, I had seen basically the same act already on TV quite some time before.

anyway, total bummer. one of the only few famous people willing to speak freely, and that is what made him a good and honest man.

I was lucky enough to see him live a few times. He will be sorely missed by all who knew of his work. I hope somewhere now he is telling someone whats wrong with the afterlife.

My favorite is: http://www.lyricsbox.com/george-carli ... er-say-on-tv-268qwb7.html

When I was a wee r_pink, my oldest sister got stuck babysitting me on the day she was planning to see him in White Plains. She did what every responsible big sister/babysitter would do and took me with her friends to see him live. It forever changed my vocabulary and I think I spent that following year grounded!

R.I.P, George Carlin....thanks for keeping it real~

He certainly will be missed.

George Carlin, the Grammy-Award winning standup comedian and actor who was hailed for his irreverent social commentary, poignant observations of the absurdities of everyday life and language, and groundbreaking routines like ?Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television,? died in Santa Monica, Calif., on Sunday, according to his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He was 71.

CARLIN QUOTES:

As a matter of principle, I never attend the first annual anything.

Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck.

Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.

I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately.

I'm completely in favor of the separation of Church and State. My idea is that these two institutions screw us up enough on their own, so both of them together is certain death.

I'm not concerned about all hell breaking loose, but that a PART of hell will break loose... it'll be much harder to detect.

If it's true that our species is alone in the universe, then I'd have to say that the universe aimed rather low and settled for very little.

If lawyers are disbarred and clergymen defrocked, doesn't it follow that electricians can be delighted, musicians denoted?

It's never just a game when you're winning.

Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations. When you have to wait a year to sleep next to a tree, something is wrong.

The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls.

There's no present. There's only the immediate future and the recent past.

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Weather forecast for tonight: dark. Continued dark overnight, with widely scattered light by morning.
