Good job by Fulop to get this done, but I'm sure he's a little annoyed at Prieto.

It could all be a big nothing. Prieto has already said he is willing to work. I believe they have a couple days to open back up

I can confirm that LSP is closed, could not passively run there. Some people decided to toss aside one of the barriers leading to the north marina. An encouraging sign from the populace?

OMG ... if the celebration is held at Exchange Place, the running Light Rail would be really dangerous in the crowd crush!

This is an excerpt from an email from Sam Pesin this morning:

Dear Liberty State Park supporters,

Many of you have already heard about the shameful abomination that LSP (and all of state government) is closed until Governor and legislature ends budget deadlock. June 30th at midnight was their fiscal year deadline, If there's no solution before July 4, Jersey City's Freedom and Fireworks Festival with food vendors, carnival and bands including Kool and the Gang will happen at Exchange Place (near PATH and light rail stops). The ferry service to Lady Liberty and Ellis Island won't operate. Liberty House Restaurant and Maritime Parc restaurants will be open.

We'll post an update on the Friends facebook page when we find out about the park re-opening.

Is this something that you bring a blanket/picnic basket and "stake out your space" for the day?
Or just wander around buying food and drink..
Where is the best place to be once the music/fireworks start?
Would love some advice from the pros..thanks
We'd probably walk or Uber

Fulop: City will move July 4 celebration if state shutdown closes Liberty State Park

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness will not be denied, even if a state government shutdown closes Liberty State Park this holiday weekend.

That's the message Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop is putting out on Facebook, saying the massive celebration in the works for July 4th with hometown heroes Kool and the Gang and fireworks will move to Exchange Place if need be.

N.J. budget fight imperils Fourth of July festival in Jersey City

Jersey City's fourth annual Fourth of July fireworks festival at Liberty State Park, headlined this year by Kool & the Gang, could fall victim to the budget impasse in Trenton.

Gov. Chris Christie said today that state parks would close starting Saturday if there is no deal on the proposed $34.7 billion state budget by midnight tomorrow. The budget failed to win the required 41 votes in the Democratic-controlled state Assembly this afternoon.

The Fourth of July festival, an all-day affair at the state park capped by what city officials tout as the largest fireworks show in New Jersey, is one of the city's biggest events. The city expects 150,000 people to attend on Tuesday.

Jersey City to host massive Fourth of July celebration at Liberty State Park

Jersey City will celebrate the country's birthday the same way it's done the last three years: by throwing in big ol' party.

Jersey City will host its fourth annual Freedom and Fireworks at Liberty State Park for the Fourth of July from 1 to 10 p.m.

Two stages will have performances going throughout the day. On the main stage, the DJ will start the event for two hours, followed by Kareen Walkes, The Shady Street Show Band, Paris-New York Band and Rocky & the Chapter. Following those performances, Giselle will perform the Star-Spangled Banner. At 8:15 p.m., Kool & the Gang will take to the stage to close out the night.
