I'm sure these decals will be every bit as effective as the "no advertisements" decals that are ignored. We can't prosecute the advertisers for littering and Do Not Call is a joke. Toothless laws breed contempt for the law on one side and despair in our government on the other.

Jersey City no-knock law to debut

JERSEY CITY -- Jersey City's new "no knock" registry that targets aggressive real estate investors is set to debut tomorrow.

Residents throughout Jersey City have complained about aggressive real estate investors who pester them about selling their homes. The ordinance, adopted unanimously earlier this month by the City Council, is similar to laws passed in South Jersey and upstate New York.

Residents who sign up for the registry will receive a decal to display on their property that tells solicitors to buzz off. The first decal is free if picked up in person at City Hall. Replacement decals are $5. If you want the decal mailed, the charge is $1.

LMAO Right Up There with the priorities of Gender Neutral Bathrooms in City Hall, as bullets continue to fly in our Southside & Westside neighborhoods ! In light of Jersey City Council meeting of 3/22/17 & JCRA meeting 24 hours prior, is there any Decal in the works to ward off Billionaire Development Corporations who are harassing long time residents with their teams of legal eagles, hidden agendas, etc... thus lining their pockets with maximum profits at the expense of the non-abated homeowners/taxpayers aka ripping the JC General Public off at a Higher 'White Collar' Non_Street Level ?

It does work in South Jersey - Toms River, Jackson & Lakewood - targeting the same aggressive door knocking cohort.

Economic violence or fair business model??

Like telephone intrusions and the like I view this practice as a form of violence--not so much physical, but psychological.

Jersey City Residents Ask For ?No Knock? Registry To Hold Developers At Bay

February 16, 2017 7:37 PM

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) ? you?ve probably heard of the ?do not call? list, but now some people want a ?do not knock? registry.

Many homeowners said they want to silence what they said are constant calls from aggressive developers who want to buy their properties.

Kim Griffin said her family has owned several properties in the Bergen Lafayette neighborhood of Jersey City for more than 50 years. It?s home and they don?t plan to leave despite constant door knocks by developers asking them to sell.

?People have been coming through Gardner Avenue asking, ?do you want to sell?? I say, ?no, I?m not selling, because where will I live,? she told CBS2?s Meg Baker.

JERSEY CITY -- The City Council will consider a "no knock" law aimed at aggressive real estate investors next week, with council members saying today the measure will protect longtime residents.

The ordinance would update the city's anti-solicitation law by including anyone looking to purchase real estate for themselves or for a third party. It would also create a "no knock" registry letting investors know which homes are owned by someone not interested in selling.

Unless there are real teeth behind reporting, enforcement and penalties, this ordinance just won't work. The parties that engage in this behavior don't care a whit about rules, propriety or people's privacy. They are emboldened - and they push and push until they get their way. It's been a growing problem and I'm happy the council is investigating this - as long as residents have a sensible and real-time way of getting redress against offenders.
