He fabricated a replacement cornice for me from scratch to match historic photos at 249 Second Street, go-past and have a look, it's lovely. CKP seem to be the masters of this kind of work in Jersey City.

He is known and trusted by the historical preservation officer/department, which makes getting historical approval far smoother if you are in one of the historic districts.

Negative parts are: 1. difficult getting in his schedule, things can drag on waiting for him to actually begin work, 2. It's not cheap!

You probably wouldn't get approval for that from the Historic Department.

I dont know how intricate your cornice is, but there is a PVC product called versatex, there are others but I prefer this one. You should consider it. I used it on a cornice I installed on one of my buildings and it is still perfect after 7 years. It is expensive, but very,very well worth it.
You can buy it in 4x8 sheets and can get may different style corbels and moldings. It is paintable also.

Are you sure that it is wood?A lot of these brownstone Cornice's are made of Tin.

I'd like to restore the original wooden cornice on my brownstone and wanted to inquire if anyone had any recommendations on a contractor they've recently used? Any idea of cost to do such a job?

Also is there a list of preferred contractors recommended by the historical society?

I want to make sure it is done properly so it will last another 100 years.

I've been looking into getting one to replace the long lost one for our building. You can get quite fancy fiberglass ones at around $200/ft that are more like the fancy ones of old than the cheap simple ones I've seen installed on infill buildings. I've been told by the vendors to expect $100-$200/ft installation.

Our condo (4 flr brownstone) had our cornice repaired earlier in the year. We used Jetco and it was $3900. I'm not sure if this is a fair price, and would be interested to see what would be a "good" price for such service.

I haven?t had my cornice repaired, but I did have it painted and I think that it was around $700 to $900 to have it scraped, painted and have the bird wire installed. It was hard to find someone to do it because the building is 3 ? stories high (3 floors with an egress basement).

We need to repair / replace the cornice on our building. Can anyone recommend someone to do it and give us a sence of what it might cost?
