Didn't know about that! Might come in handy sometime, Moe is closed most of the week out of high season.

Gotta go to Moe's. Limited selection though, but I'd try there first because it's a cool little old school business and Moe is a nice guy.

You can also try the marine store at Liberty Landing Marina - they have rods and some tackle/lures (and a lot of frozen bait).

Then there's Capitol on 36th, very convenient from Path.

I second Moe's. Mom and pop with a lot of knowledge thrown your way if requested.

Maybe they listened to me after all! I was there in May. Do they still have only the one side of one aisle? Most stores have at least both sides, some used to have 4 sides.

Local and good selection are the WalMarts in Bayonne or Secaucus - they have gear on hand and a decent selection with the Bayonne location prolly a bit better.

Har Lee Rod on the Blvd in the Hts. is long gone but was the go to place with everything from live sand worms to servicing Penn reels.

Bayonne WM does NOT carry saltwater tackle. I couldn't resist pointing out to the clueless clerk that Bayonne is a peninsula surrounded by salt water without a single body of fresh, yet they only had freshwater gear. She mumbled something about it being one of the smaller stores. Secaucus or N Bergen are better, but nothing like Jigging World, or even a Dicks. Seems to me WM has been shrinking the fishing dept at all stores.

Far as Capitol goes, I love shooting the shit with those guys and occasionally buying terminal tackle When I'm in the hood seeing a client, but their prices are very high and selection about the same as True World. Foreign tourists, wealthy businessmen and guys like User1111 are their bread and butter.

True World in Bayonne is your best bet. They have a decent selection of just about everything. Diamond jigs, bucktails, SP Minnows, etc.

Jigging World, up 17 near 80. Great selection. Moe's is a classic gem, but not a big place, he mostly sells bait and terminal tackle.

True World Tackle, down in Bayonne on Bwy at 36th isn't bad, way bigger than Moe's, but a fraction the size of Jigging World. About comparable to the late lamented Har-Lee Rod.

Can anyone recommend a place to pick up salt-water fishing gear (lures, etc.) that isn't too far of a drive? I can order stuff online, but for lures, I like to be able to actually see them up close before buying them.
