This is all very helpful info. I guess my next stop needs to be the zoning department to see how my building is zoned and what constitutes a permanent structure.

Apparently there are other conditions such as the height of the building which dictates how it's classified. In regards to 30 ft set back, I just went through the zoning / building department to get approvals for an addition and unless you get a variance from zoning all permanent structures (including decks and sheds that have a foundation) require it to be 30 ft from the back property line.

I'm curious about the same thing. Posted a little bit ago on the same subject and didnt get any answers. I have a neighbor with one and its on the back end of property line. As for 30ft from property, I'm not sure where that comes from and not sure how a shed could be considered permanent. Curious to hear from someone with experience.Quote:

If it will be a permanent structure make sure that the shed is at least 30 feet away from the back property line.

I hoping to put a garden shed in my back garden this summer but I'm not sure where to begin. I want to to be attractive but not too expensive. Can anyone recommend a builder or local supplier of such things? Just has to be big enough to fit a few bikes, lawnmower and some garden tools. Also, do I need a permit for this kind of thing?
