New Jersey lost nearly 14,000 jobs in July, with the largest employment declines posted in leisure and hospitality and professional and business services, according to new labor data released on Thursday. The state's unemployment rate, which is measured by a different federal survey, decreased to 5.9 percent, down from 6.1 percent in June and 6.5 percent a year ago. The state lost 13,600 jobs in total in July. The industries that posted the most significant declines were leisure and hospitality, which lost 7,400 jobs, and professional and business services, which lost 5,200 jobs. The financial activities industry also shed 2,700 jobs and 1,200 jobs were lost in the information sector. The public sector posted a loss of 1,300 jobs, according to the data released by the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development. More
